Can you put effects from hosts and effects plugins and use them on your own samples and sell the samples or give them away?

Post

Depends on what the license for those samples says, but generally speaking - no. The license (or the copyright holder) need to specifically permit such usage, or else it is illegal. More so, in most cases the samples are licensed for use in your own compositions and any form of re-distribution is specifically forbidden

You could always ask the copyright holder to those samples if this is allowed.

maybe I'm reading this wrong...
I *think* memyselfandus is asking if it's OK to use effects from one's DAW/host or 3rd party fx plug ins on samples one creates himself and then commercially market those effected samples.

I'd think that if YOU created the samples yourself and you used host or plug in effects that you legally own, there would be no problem marketing those samples.

...however...simply slapping fx on someone elses sample sets and then marketing them as your own- THAT would NOT be prudent, ethical or legal ;)

Ofcourse you can. You only can't do the same using others' samples.

In general, stay AWAY from anyone else's samples. :D

Cool thats what I thought and checked with audition and they said you can use the effects on your own samples and do whatever you want with them
which makes me happy.

OK, my mistake. I read "my own samples" as "samples I have bought" and not "samples I have made myself". Sorry if my answer was misleading in any way.
