Come on. All annode said was that he would probably keep trying to find the exact cause of the bug and if the bug gets fixed he'll pay for Poly-Ana.
I get it if you don't want him to go bug-hunting with a "full version" for free (it was still bug-hunting he suggested though! for free!), but no need to get all hostile about it

Sounds like a bit more than "Bug Hunting".annode wrote: I won't lie to you and say i'll never use it or record with it.

True, but I think he meant that as "I'll go on and try to use it normally and if that means the bug is found and a fix gets done, I'll pay". I'm not saying he SHOULD be able to keep it, I'm just saying that it maybe would've been enough to just say "Sure, a refund can be invoked, but you can't go on using it then". I mean, he also said "For my user puposes,it's trash to me unless I find what the prob is. " so I doubt he founds it a useful product before the bug gets fixed.Teksonik wrote:Sounds like a bit more than "Bug Hunting".annode wrote: I won't lie to you and say i'll never use it or record with it.
If he's alone with this bug, it might not be WORTH it to fix it, economically speaking, and then a refund+uninstall is the proper way to go.

I don't feel this way about bugs. I was happy to spend a couple of months carefully attending to dacaumodo's very special bug that nobody else could reproduce. And now that we finally found the rare, though quite possible condition that causes it, the product is better for it.stefancrs wrote: If he's alone with this bug, it might not be WORTH it to fix it, economically speaking, and then a refund+uninstall is the proper way to go.
But I wouldn't work with annode because he wouldn't work with me. He had a kneejerk response of accusing me of lying any time I told him something he didn't want to hear (can't reproduce it at this end, nobody else is seeing this, probably won't get fixed in this new release that I'm very busy with for the next few days before I can focus on finding your issue, etc...) I'm not sure how much babysitting people expect for $129.95. But even if I still had that guy's money I'd be making less than $12 an hour on him (and that's assuming the price is just for my support time, not even addressing the two years of mostly unpaid for work I've put into this product already.)
I should also point out that Poly-Ana is Try-B4-Buy EXACTLY to avoid these kinds of issues with rare bugs. I don't have tens of thousands of users like the big boys do (at least not legitimate users) so something that only happens in 1/100 cases might only happen to one customer. (Not even 100 of you yet actually.)
But he was able to enjoy Poly-Ana enough to want to buy it after a couple days. Then he does a complete 180 on the first issue that comes up (and he started accusing me of lying in email before coming in here, after I told him I couldn't reproduce it. I guess I'm lying, as is everybody else here who claims they can't reproduce it. One big happy conspiracy.
I still suspect his MIDI hardware, especially if the problem happened on two different computers. He mentioned a Keystation-something. I have a Keystation 88 and the first time I used it I was seeing CPU spikes too and wondering why The Grand sounded so different, until I realized it was sending on 4 channels at once and turned off all but one "zone". That might also explain why he can't reproduce this problem on MIDI playback, only when playing live.
Poly-Ana has a guitar mode when set to unison and any incoming MIDI on different channels will essentially get it's own monosynth assigned to that string/channel. Unfortunately I couldn't see Poly-Ana's voice display in his movie so I couldn't tell if the right number of voices were being activated.
Anyway, he's got his money back, I'm out $8 out of my own money (PayPal takes $4 when you pay me, and takes $4 again when I refund), and obviously I have no way of uninstalling the software from his machine. But not having to put up with his paranoia and contempt, that's more than worth it to me. I mean c'mon people, it's only $129.95. Not a major life decision.
1.13 coming shortly...

Hello , as you are talking about rare bugs : I've sent you a mail a few days ago about a crash when closing/opening the gui.Is it already fixed or will it be for the 1.13 version ?
Will it be still possible to have a trial time with the 1.13 (demo time reset or something) ?
Not very important but I've begin something with the trial so...I just ask.

I've been testing for that but so far can't reproduce it. (Apparently rapidly opening and closing the gui while automating some controls caused it for him.)
I think I sent you an email back asking which exact control(s) you were automating when it happened. I should also ask, was the control motion through MIDI CC, or VST automation?
And to address another rare one that another customer describes, can anyone verify it working in Orion? How about TobyBear's Minihost? (Which works fine for me.) Note that in Orion you may have to add
Code: Select all
Poly-Ana = 1
Poly-AnaFX = 0

Ok, there's the exact bug report. I see now he does mention the filter CF controls and that it's automation envelopes. I'll test that again.I'm currently testing Latest polyAna version and I would like to report A bug I've found. If a parameter is automated (with an enveloppe )and if we close open the vst gui editor then polyana is crashing the host.I've found this when hosting polyana in Energy XT2 while automating the two filter freq cutoff. If you cant reproduce it I'll mail you the test project without problems , or if you need more information about this too.
...
Yes , same problem with others hosts.I've just tried with AudioMulch and with the 2 same automations (Cut 1 & 2).
I would like to precise that's it's necessary to close & reopen the polyana gui something like 10 or 15 times before it crashes.
I have a crashlog from audiomulch , precising the VST function where the problem has happend:

Really weird where the bugs appear. I'm very happy with Poly-Ana and, sorry, I've no bugs (Except the little one we mailed about, Mike. Actually not worth to mention...).
And, by the way, the support is EXCELLENT. Mike responds immediately and friendly. This is not given by all devs, for sure. I cannot say even the slightest thing against Mike and Admiral Quality.

Yes but Orion or minihost don't destroy and create the gui each time you close them .The bug can be reproduced in Audiomulch or energy XT2 while automating (so vst parameter) cutoff frequency 1 and 2 (the two filters).I didn't reply because I had clearly said which was the controls and the Audiomulch report was very clear on how and when the bugs is happening.
So if you need more info I can mail again.I know exactly how to reproduce this bug.

The Orion/Minihost thing is a totally different issue HumanBeing2. I just thought I'd mention that one too. In the case of the user with problems in Orion and Minihost, he can't get it to load at all. Minihost gives him a "Poly-Ana is not a valid vst plugin" error. Works perfectly here though.HumanBeing2 wrote:Yes but Orion or minihost don't destroy and create the gui each time you close them .The bug can be reproduced in Audiomulch or energy XT2 while automating (so vst parameter) cutoff frequency 1 and 2 (the two filters).I didn't reply because I had clearly said which was the controls and the Audiomulch report was very clear on how and when the bugs is happening.

As for your bug... just re-testing that now... will do lots of opening and closing of the editor while filter cf's are under automation... get back to you in a bit.

Editor is opening and closing fine in SX3 while both filter cutoffs are under automation. I must have opened/closed it about 50 times so far and no problems yet.
I've sent you what's probably the final 1.13 release so you can test it HumanBeing2.
Sending me the eXT project you use might help too, but I need to get eXT first.

OK, I've been able to reproduce HumanBeing2's bug in the eXT2 demo. It crashed it good, took the ASIO driver with it, requiring a reboot.
These are one of the worst kinds of problems to debug, because it requires a reboot every time you test. But that's pretty common in this biz.
I'll see if I can find it, holding off the 1.13 release until I've had a go at it, probably not till tomorrow now.
Thanks HumanBeing2!

I'm the one with the rare bug......NO! It's not Ebola virus!
Mike has worked hard trying to solve this one. Is anyone using an SSE1 CPU who can still get the Poly-Ana upgrade to work?
Anyone with an Athlon XP up to 3200 has got SSE1 only?
