RepRat is a nice and simple freeze-delay effect. May be handy if your fave del/verb doesn't have freeze ... you can add RepRat ... and not worry too much about CPU load, cos RepRat is soooo simple!

Here it is in its full SE hideousness ....

Image

Just a quick note abot the modes ... there is the Del Mode, and theres a Freeze-Dry switch ... which basically disables the Dry audio while freeze is enabled.

Del Mode....Freeze-Dry

Off ........ Off .......... Audio feed unaffected
On ......... Off .......... Single delay added to Audio feed
Freez ...... Off .......... As above, but frozen delay replaces single
delay when Freeze button activated.
Off ........ On ........... Audio feed cut when Freeze button activated
On ......... On ........... As above, but delayed signal will continue
Freez ...... On ........... Audio feed replaced by frozen delay when freeze
button activated

The single delay may not seem very exciting, but as a lo cpu ADT ( with speed around 30ms ) it performs well, and theres always that option to tweak the mod rate on the fly!
One thing I can guarantee is that playing around with the Delay range and speed controls is great fun, esp whilst switching the freeze on and off ... but I wont spoil your fun by describing any further ( I'm sure you can imagine ) .. just go try for yourselves!

So dont let its ugliness put you off, its free, and has been great fun testing!

This is a mono version, but a stereo version with a couple of extra features and a half decent skin will be available soon.

A multi freeze version with even more flexibility will be offered as a prize to future One-Synth-Challenge contributors!

Click on one of the links below and look for RepRat .... and have fun!
Any comments re. improvements welcome .... but bear in mind, I also want to keep it smallish and simple!

thanks for this plug. Just had a quick play and will be using it for sure for some beat mashery.

As you suggest, triggering freeze and tweaking the speed gets nice results.
Would be nice to have larger delay ranges to sweep through.

One quick observation, even though each of the ranges is labeled 'zero to something', they all sound different when set to zero due to different delays i.e. the lowest value of each range isnt zero as the labeling suggests.

Thanks :D

Post

Yeah VariKusBrainZ thats about right :) The 'speed' control doesnt quite go to zero, but thats because the 'fine' speed has positive and negative values ... to give a bit of space on that scarey end of the scale. I think you'll find if the 'fine' control is set hard to the right, the 'speed control will hit 'zero' on all ranges.... but still, its handy how tweaking the range, speed, and fine controls have different effects despite the fact they have basically the same function! ... its all in the maths! :hihi:

Post

Oh, actually, I'm maybe answering in an over complicated way ... because i've used 'speed' rather than 'delay' or 'time' on the label, it maybe the wrong way round logically ... ie ... clockwise speeds the delay up rather than increase the delay period .... which kinda seems more logical to me, being a lover of tape delays where this is the norm.

I've not spent a great deal of time on the details of the plug really, and would not have released it at all if it didn't just WORK ... :hihi:

Really glad your enjoying it, have fun!

Post

Nearly there with the stereo version ... with an option to go mono and 'chain' the channels.
As I say, i wont be releasing this til I have the multi freeze version finished, so plenty time for anyone to throw ideas/suggestions re the stereo version.

nice one fred

Post

Thanks for trying it out mxtk ... :) ... I'm still having a lot of fun tweaking it on the fly ... gonna try some automated stuff and see what happens!!

Post

Thanks for this ... will give it a spin this evening :)

Post

Hmmmm. Automation not working as it should! :(

Oh well, suppose I better fix it ... drat!

Post

OK, fixed and re-upped.... I think I had been doing something stupid when automating in FL, so the changes I made to the plug may not have made a difference ... anyway, automates fine now ... so if the version you have doesn't, then download again :)

Cheers for trying it out guys, The stereo and multi-freeze versions are coming on nicely.... any comments on the mono version will be helpful in their development.

For example ... is the fine speed control perhaps not 'fine' enough? I'm not sure myself ... it kinda depends on how the 'speed' control is set ... and yet, knowing that can give scope to the use of 'fine'

Work so far the stereo version.....

2 channels. Each can be fed from either L,R, or both. In addition, Ch2 can be fed from the output of ch1. Output of both channels have vol and pan.

The dry output can be cut by a choice of Freeze1, Freeze2, either, or both.

The delay range, speed, and fine controls of channel 2 can be individually linked to the respective controls on ch1.

Each channel has an LFO to modulate the delay. The LFO can be switched On, off, disabled on freeze, or enabled on freeze. Not sure if I want to link the controls, or even have only one LFO between the channels.... I see a danger of overcomplicating, and I still want to keep the cpu load as low as poss.

Any thoughts?
