Its an old synth that sounds $expensive$ so people use it to sound high-end, but it doesn't get the creditsjames0tucson wrote:\\MA-Simon wrote:

Great tone poem.
But what is Galileo? (There's no KVR page? What kind of synth doesn't have a KVR page???)

i didnt use any fx on mine, just the synth...but i didnt finishe it eitherMac of BIOnighT wrote:I must say I kind of agree with this... I mean, the point is to use just one synth and see what you can get out of it, not just any sound at all and three gazillion effects that could turn any sound into any other sound altogetherMA-Simon wrote:is it still the Sound of that synth???![]()

Otherwise there's no challenge... (now, don't you guys get pissed, OK?)

Wow, this is a busy little corner
Personally I'm loathe to over restrict on the FX thing. There used to be a statement in the rules which asked for fx to be kept to a minimum, and I can be persuaded to reintroduce that rule, but at the end of the day, as long as the part of the rules re. the transformation of sounds is understood, then the use sampling and number of fx is a less important issue.
What James O states above re, his impression of the entry criteria is exactly how I want it to come across, so I dont think we're doing badly!
We have had discussions previously wherein it has been stated that use of delay is equivalent to copying a track or part of a track and pasting it into a seperate track with a time lag, and also that there is no difference between a sample, and a track rendered to audio ... I think it is very much a distraction to focus on such details and become overly pedantic about it.
Just as owning a knife doesn't make you a violent criminal, the number of fx/samples does not necessarily result in false representation of the featured synths capabilities.... so I think it is enough to have guidance re. use of sampling/fx in terms of sound production v's sound transformation/creation.
However, its a very good time to propose amendments to the rules if anyone feels it necessary, it will prob be another 10 days before I have to post the rules for the next challenge, so fire away
Right, where were we? Two more tracks? great!! Cheers Yeager ( again
) and MA Simon for the submissions!
Mouxbar, the synths we have covered so far are Synth1, Oatmeal, Crystal, Mr Alias, Tal Elec7ro, and sfxr.

... and dont worry she's fine, she went there of her own accord, and was discovered before any harm could be done .... she's even fine despite coughing up hairball and associated stomach contents over my daughters biology notes last night

Yeager, I was going to thank you for yourvote of confidence ... and then you suggest my cat has weird eyes
... a bit of glare in the photo, thats all ... her eyes are beautiful!!
Anyway, I've just auditioned Chimera ... and it works fine, but I cant add anything more in a positive vein, sorry
... However, I may run the comp, but I have no wish to have my opinion valued any greater than that of any other in these discussions. If theres support for Chimera, lets hear it, and I'll not shy away from doing a track..... it'll certainly be a challenge!

Now, really, I wouldn't want what I said to be taken that seriously - once again: it's just for fun, right?
It's just that I thought it was some sort of sound programming challenge... if I spend days trying to squeeze sounds out of the chosen synth and then someone else samples a tenth of a second of just about the first bleep from that synth, loops it, alters it beyond recognition, passes it thru 54143234 effects etc etc I do not feel we're playing the same game.
I think that in a one synth challnge one should show how good he is at getting sounds out of that synth, not how good he is at using his sampler and effects, otherwise it becomes a song competition with different parameters and a different name...
Yes, it is always a game and it is for fun (I barely knew there were any prizes and I still don't know what happens to the winner, I do not care, I did it as a challenge (!!!)to myself and see what I could come up with), but if I play chess with somebody, it would be nice if he was playing chess, too - if I play chess and he plays cards, to me a lot of the fun (which obviouly comes from competing on a common ground) is gone...
I'm having fun anyway and I get the chance to hear a lot of great and inventive music, it's just that I think any game should follow at least a few rules to be fun...
But again, I'm just here to partecipate and have fun like everybody else, so whatever the rules, they're fine with me

I've submitted Galileo a zillion times... but has never been added to the databasejames0tucson wrote:\\MA-Simon wrote:

But what is Galileo? (There's no KVR page? What kind of synth doesn't have a KVR page???)
Wow MA-Simon, 40 instances!
Well the problem is for sure related with the dualcore bug and some new feature of FL and Cubase. The only way to fix the problem is to try to save the dll with the last version of SE (which, btw, is a beta... so I'm not sure if this will solve the problem). I'm only waiting to have some spare time because the last SE beta needs to be handled with care in order to avoid biiiig problems with the stable version.
The last version of Chimera has been exported with the new SE beta which should fix the dualcore bug. Is it working fine or someone noticed something strange? Thanks for any feedback guys, this really helps
Hey Tattiemannie your cat is lovely
Cheers,
Max

Well Max, we're dying to to do a Galileo comp .... take your time, I'm sure theres an answer to the issue, and as soon as its found, Galileo will be top of the list
I cant comment on Chimeras dual core performance, I have five cores, but they are in 5 different computers
My cat? Her name is Lego, and she is a character
She's the sort who will go to great lengths to get her whole body into a childs shoe box, and yet can take up all the useful space on a four seater sofa!

Mac, no probs for bringing up the issue ... if it gets folks adding to the discussion, its all good!
Please feel free to challenge anything said by myself and others ... I aim to keep the whole concept as democratic and inclusive as poss .... its better to weigh up and make decisions informed by discussion and input, than structuring things with no guidance and hoping for the best
As I said, now is a good time for people to assert their influence .... the best ( ... only? ) time to adjust parameters is between comps, and we're about there at this moment in time.
One more day to submit entries .... plus any extra time the KVR clock chooses to add
