Interesting. I've had the exact opposite feeling lately. With Syrah I managed to dial in some really awesome settings for guitars and vocals.
You might like setting the "Velocity" control quite a bit higher, combined with speed, making Syrah have a longer attack and release with quicker fall off (the velocity thing). IMHO the default settings and some of the presets are way too fast for most things. It's more "fat" and punchy sounding when it's slower. Also try disabling the gain compensation button and doing the compensation manually. It seems to be doing something slightly weird (or then I'm a victim of mr placebo again).
Most of all I like running it at around 30% dry 70% wet settings.. keeping some of the dry signal seems to work very well on this compressor, for most sources.
IMO, Pure Compressor II is more of a problem solving/precision tool whereas Syrah is a kind of a general "shaper".
I'll be sending a chunk of presets to Flux ASAP, once I get this machine up and running again.
Cheers!

I know your sweet pain. But I'm going to turf all others (except for a few select "character" ones) and use Pure Compressor instead. Clear up those eyeballs a bit...sureno wrote:cheers guys, im comped up to the eye balls as it is

It's high time to "reboot" the All about compressors thread anyways (the old server with all the files is gone) so I might as well start with Syrah and Pure Compressor. Pro-C should get a chapter as well.. hmm..
Cheers!

I'm going to spend some time and figure this out. I enjoyed working with it so much yesterday, I saved screenshots so I could recall the settings if/when I bought it! That doesn't happen very often.
Then again, as b and others are finding, Syrah may be the one to get for day-to-day character compression. But I personally think I prefer the precision of Pure Compressor II, plus it's cheaper.
Of course, it must be said that the FLUX stuff has slightly more unusual parameters than other compressors, so I'd strongly recommend anyone try it out first and read up on things like "Velocity", "Angel's Share", "Hysterisis", etc before buying. For me, I think the uniqueness may help come up with original results. But I am a groupie.

Hi bduffy, bduffy wrote:Hey, question to anyone who knows:
When you buy a FLUX product, does that purchase include all Mac & PC platforms? On the Don't Crack cart page, I can only select "Platform Mac - VST"...
Thanks for pointing this question out. It is all platforms that are available when shopping at DC just as if you had bought your products from Flux. Once you receive your order confirmation, you may download the latest version of your product from our site or from Flux. You then go through the registration process and your done.
In short, you may download the Mac or PC version and use any of the AU, VST , RTAS format...
Hope that answers your thoughts.
Thanks and all the best - Peter

Hey thank, Peter. That's what I figured, just had to make sure. At those prices, one almost thinks there's a catch!DontCrack wrote:Hi bduffy, bduffy wrote:Hey, question to anyone who knows:

Hmmm, interesting. I'll give that a try now. I haven't really touched the presets.bmanic wrote:Interesting. I've had the exact opposite feeling lately. With Syrah I managed to dial in some really awesome settings for guitars and vocals.

For those of you who actually bothered to downlaod and open the manual, you got your reward in the end where we provided a "walk through" to introduce the user to the world of Syrah...
