Looks like Native Instruments just released 4 new acoustic piano libraries for Kontakt: http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/ ... arch=piano

Anybody tried them? How are they different from the old Acoustic Piano libraries or the ones that come with Kontakt (or even the ones that come with Logic)?

Only detailed info on the sampling I saw was 10 velocity layers per key. The "New York" one is the Steinway. Wonder how it sounds compared to Ivory or Garritan's Steinway.

I believe they are the same pianos that were in Akoustik Pianos that was just discontinued. But I didn't have AP, so I don't know for sure.

I have AP because I own Komplete 5 and 6, but not installed, because of stopping support.

I think the new pianos should be free, or for a small amount there should be the possibility to UPGRADE from AP to the new ones.

I certainly hope there is an upgrade path from AP. Seems a bit weird that they would discontinue AP, only to bring out a product that to all intents and purposes could be seen as AP 2 a couple of months later. What's that about?

I think it's just all about trimming down the product line to focus on a smaller amount of products, which I think is a good thing. So as you can see lately since Kore 2 or so, and now with the Kontakt 3 demo being combined with the Kontakt Player, and now with eliminating products that essentially were using the Kontakt engine anyways.

So they can now focus on Kontakt itself more than if they were developing five different code bases that were all built on Kontakt anyways.

I do hope they offer an upgrade price for AP owners as well. I'm not one of them, but I think it would be a great idea. Though you CAN load the AP patches in Kontakt, you don't have the interface obviously. So that's really all you would be paying for, and not worth full price.

They're not stopping support for this... By installing AP, you then gain access to it through Kontakt, which is NOW the supported version and yes... AP is the same as what they are selling currently.

hmm, yes looking at the details on the NI site it does seem there are very few changes - probably more a .1 change than a version 2 - mostly if anything just the layout of the Kontakt instrument (the current AP pianos do not look like that when loaded in Kontakt). So I'm more hopeful this update will be available to use AP owners.

I'm hoping too! As soon as I saw the different interface, I immediately opened Service Center to check for an update, but no luck! Still, it is the same samples.

I just did the same. I would like that new Kontakt skin though. I can't see any reason they would hold off on AP owners now though so it's hopefully just a matter of time.

I am here at work and cannot open their page, because we are still on IE6

I'm sorry, but I think NI should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for this little stunt.

Komplete owners should have recieved these for free as they were originally part of the bundle. What's next? Selling uddated versions of spektral delay and pro-53 to komplete users? Shameful tactics. And after all the products I've bought from them. Their business ethic is that of a fat cat.

I think this is a disgrace. They basically said (in my own words) "acoustik pianos have been discontinued, but don't worry, we'll make them available in kontakt". I assumed (when I bought komplete 6) that they meant for free, as it was part of komplete 5.

I'm really pissed off at this. I waited a while for these. Greedy *"£$%^*!

Not to mention kontakt 4 orchestral libraries are still broken.

I regret buying komplete a little bit now. I love the product, I just don't like this kind of monopoly being thrust upon me.

Again, after all the products i've bought from them and the great things I've said about them

I too think this is a pretty low move.
