Yes they are, and I have the demo, and it works well (so far).

I told the dev that they need to just merge the two programs.

So as you can see the effect of the Harmonizer is to allow you to layer arpeggios together. The problem with the Harmonizer appears to make the layering process -- a manual process; whereas if it has chord recognition, it would be an automatic process.

So the question is, what chords are there to develop for the developer?

Well, take the screenshot from the software "One Man Band" (which has chord recognition; however, it is rather difficult to use and can not be a plugin)
Image

It shows all chords that can be programmed in, which adds up to be 72. So, if one is playing the chord C, F, A or F, A, C - the software should recognize it as the F chord. In a working manner, the first layer plays the C, F, A or F, A, C and the second layer plays a single F key in both instances.

The retrigger feature is not only important but a critical component in this software as well.

Also, don't be afraid to put your input because people might slam on you. Because if they do and they're right, you've gained a correct insight. If they're wrong, then they're an idiot anyway :)

The first rule is to maintain a presence. I'd say the second rule is to communicate. And the third one is to do it in a nice way - in other words to project an image to the customer community.

Witness, for example, the huge success of Zebra 2 and ACE. Granted, they are two superb synths. But I suspect that the active and affable presence of Urs here on KVR has had quite a part in that success.

Same thing with Terry West, Soniccouture, Orange Tree, Camel Audio and many others.

I know that I'd much rather buy a synth or effect from a likeable guy who appears to listen and provides feedback, than one whose attitude is 'take it or leave it'.

Exactly what you wrote here, is why I feel the way I do about this developer. I was interested in Catanya. I gave up because if the developer shows they don't care, why the hell would I purchase from them. They expect the money to come rolling in but don't show any interest in communicating about anything that shows any type of foward movement as far as development. Not a big problem I guess because there are those that will fork over their money anyway. Just not me.

I see that when there's lack of communication, other interpretations of what the devs attitude or status, or whatever is...falls in to fill the void.

That makes sense.

Nevertheless I spent the money, (cheaper than going on a cheap date) and it works, and it's not bad for an early revision.
Still has a lot of upside potential, but even if 7aliens decides to retire and go skiing in the Alps or whatever, at least I have another toy.

There are plenty of other comparable products out there, and life is short.

Greg

p.s. and I don't know why the demo doesn't work like the released product, and I don't have any problems running it in Samplitude or savihost (despite no videos showing such on the website), so I guess I've been lucky for once.
Has anyone tried simply emailing them?

Would you be able to do it soon? This is the only major feature missing from Catanya. I want to buy it right now, but can't pull the trigger because of this. This is actually a very good arpeggiator now that I understand what it's exact intention is.

Aproximately 2 months.
Now we are getting close to 5 months. Any update on this?

Post

Seeing and hearing the demos on Youtube it looks like a missed opportunity not to include chord recognition. I'm always amazed why this feature is missed in (similar) software. Being able to go from one scale to another on the fly makes you free as a musician, so you're not a slave of the program. The argument that you fall into the trap of repeating your self with the same chords over and over is the problem of the user of course.

Hi guys, everybody who likes us, everybody who likes our hard and fair work!

We have been collecting your queries and ideas and we haven't been sleeping or ignoring them. You have so many demands and we are doing our best to satisfy every one of you. Let me give you short list of what you have been asking from us to do:
Catanya in Cubase 5
Catanya in Ableton Live 7
Catanya in SonyAcid
Catanya in Traction 3
Catanya in Sonar 8.3.1
Mac version
Manual
Working under 64bit Win
Chord recognition
Loading last used presets
And others

How many of these things can one person do at once? One at a time. So we are really working on everything you want. We have released new version of Catanya with fixed problem in Cubase 5 and Nuendo 4. MAC version and 64bit version has to wait but it's on the plan definitely in the near future.

How is the development of your product going Kvrajim?

Not that we haven't noticed.

It's true we don't have much time to attend every forum communication but we reply EVERY email we get from you.
We take every one of you guys seriously. We are paying attention to what you say. But sometimes some things are impossible to do immediately, please be critical to your demands as well and don't get angry when you don't get the answer on the forum. Some of the questions have been replied previously, it's just a matter of having a look. If there is a question that you need to be answered immediately, please write us an email. If you accuse us for not replying, please also write when we do reply. It would be at least fair. If there is an older issue that you think haven't been answered, please ask again. As in every business, we know we can't satisfy everyone. But we do our best.

I bought Catanya this week, and so far absolutely loving it!

But I do think that you should get the manual out pretty quick as something of a priority though. It's not entirely intuitive.

Thanks.. and good luck!

Neither did I.. To be fair, I've noticed all the popular plugins with Arpeggiators do not have chord recognition - so it is a challenge to develop this no doubt. Either that or they haven't realized the value of this function (as a skilled musician would).

If I were to develop such an application, I would look to the company with the best accompaniment technology that I've come across: Yamaha.

Simply buy their arranger keyboards and see how they interpret each different chord (since some chords can be interpreted in many ways). They display the chord on screen whenever a chord is pressed.

If Catanya develops chord recognition, it can be layered with all the popular plugins with chord recognition - think how popular Catanya can be.

Here's a video of me playing on a yamaha keyboard with chord recognition accompaniment on the left hand: (Turkish March)

I still think that chord recognition is excessive for such a simple plugin as Catanya.

If I have simple car, which hardly can brake and has only one transmission gear, but my friend insists that I have to spend time and money to get cruise control first, what would you say?

Because my friend has a Bugatti and say

"Would it be nice to get cruise control first?
- But I my car is so simple, I even have not got a car seats...
- No! Cruise control (Chords recognition) first or I will be very disappointed."

You suggest to compete Yamaha? What on Earth are you going to do with this function without arranger and styles?

Catanya can not do so many things as step sequencer, for example. Many step sequencers can play scale notes (not just chord's notes), etc.

Catanya has only one triggering function (It could be 5)

Catanya has only three octaves (I believe that it should have 4)

Etc etc etc javascript:emoticon(':x')
