Also ZynAddSubFX sounds good if you don't mind the interface.

Thought I'd tried all the 1034982 VSTi's out there, but obviously missed this one.. And what a gem, thx for the tip.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Augur, a Prophet VS emulation.

Sqaure I, recently made free from Cakewalk.

Sonic Lion Nitrox is very powerful!

Also +1 for Oatmeal and Tal Elek7ro

Jeremy Evers Atlantis does some interesting things and has a semi modular fx section.

If you can find it, the beta version of Audjoo Helix is very powerful.

It's true. Rez continues to be one of the only free VSTs that finds it's way into my synth folder.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the KORE player It's basically all the NI synths and a sampler rolled up into a little ball of free. It's a preset player, but you can later fortify it with more sounds via payware KORE packs.

Also, not mentioned yet, Daedalus is really good.

SK Note Grainz also allows this, and is based off the graintable method introduced by Malstrom in Reason. ;)
