Post

Here we go once again folks, I am glad to announce the first OSC where the featured synth has been chosen by a last placed competitor in a previous comp.... further pushing the point there are no losers in this comp! ;)

Dwsel has decided we will use Krakli's 'StringZ' for One-Synth-Challenge 15 .... now, I have to say its easier to find the updated 'StringZ2' so you can use either.. or both if you so desire.

Create a track using only StringZ/stringZ2 for all the sounds, including percussion!

Download StringZ2 here ....
http://krakli.com/krakli-free-synths/ ..... google for StringZ if you prefer ...

* * * * * * THE RULES ( please read fully) * * * * * *
The track can be made in any host.

All the sounds in our tracks will be created by StringZ/StringZ2

* * * FX * * *
StringZ2 has a good integral reverb, and good modulation options, but I think it would be mean to disallow an external reverb ... and so ....

Fx are limited to
Reverb, Delay ( unmodulated ), Dynamics ( comp, limit, gate ), EQ ( inc. exciters etc ) and Stereo fx ( pan/autopan/width enhancers etc ).

..... Important!......
Other than the hosts native EQ,
All Fx used must .....
**be freeware, and easily available via download.
**generally usable in a wide range of hosts
**not be used in such a way as to transform the sounds to a degree
which makes them unrecognisable as those achievable from StringZ/StringZ2.
..... otherwise you will be excecuted!!!!! :-o

.... Fx footnote .... it is a generally held view that in the spirit of the comp, although we all like to create and hear well produced tracks, we should use as few Fx as we dare! ... it all adds to the challenge! :)

*** There is no track length limit.... excpt if your name begins with the letters M, A, and C .. in that order! :hihi:

* * * * * How to Submit your Track * * * * *

**** Finished tracks, in mp3 format, should be uploaded here ...

http://www.4shared.com/dir/21373365/665 ... lenge.html

* Please post in this thread when you upload a track, that way I can prevent
abuse of this public folder. Anything uploaded without an accompanying post
here will be deleted.

For the sake of clarity, name your track in the following format ...

.... Title of Track - Artist Name ( in that order pleeeze! )

* Before you do that though, create a notepad/text file and describe briefly what you have used ( host, how many instances of Stringz/StringZ2, which fx, how many instances.. etc. )
....... keep it short though, that way it can be read in preview mode without the need to be downloaded.

Save the notepad/text file as the title of your track, that way it will sit above or below the track itself when you upload it, and not get mixed up with any others.
( feel free to post or PM me if you have any problems uploading )
**Please do not post seperate, external links to tracks you wish to be included in the comp.

CLOSING DATE for submissions is 30th of April

* * * * * How is the comp judged? * * * * *

The comp will be judged by the votes of KVR members. Depending on the number of submitted tracks, the voting may take the shape of a single vote poll, or a more flexible multiple vote option.

* * * * * And the prizes? * * * * *

@@ Rob_lee has again generously donated some patchbanks.

@@ Karmacomposer has generously donated three prizes made up of combinations of SuperCore, Monstrous, Monstrous expansion, BRASSphemy expansion, Vocalsphere Expansion

@@ Luftrum has donated Luftrum5 - a ReFill for Reason featuring a standalone soundbank by Ishq. http://www.luftrum.com/

..... Big, big thanks once again to Rob, Max and Luftrum for their superb, continued support! :tu:

... And I await other offers ... which I will update here when I know more

.. ANY OTHER OFFERS OF PRIZES WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
.. PM me, or post in the thread if you wish to support OSC by donating a prize.. ( A great way to 'Plug your plugs' )

@@ I will once again rattle something together to add to the growing participants prize bundle.
.......... So, nothing to lose, and plenty of time! :)

**** Good luck with those tracks! ...... and have fun!!! ****

Yeah, you need discipline mate! I suggest you imagine you are putting a zoo together ... in a very small space! You want to maintain variety of species, so you have to be very organised .. like you dont want any species accessing the food supply of any other, and you dont want to offer the opportunity for any species to eat any other ... eg, you dont want the leopard's trees to overhang the monkey's trees ... and you dont want to make it easy for the rabbits to burrow into the weasel's enclosure! ... or,

...you could just have a word with mrblitz re. note/scale hothousing! :hihi:

.. another way of thinking is that you are not obliged to chill us out! maybe you should just for once, freak us out! ... thereby creating a need for us to reach for your chill out material! ... like how it makes perfect business sense for a producer of top grade ( overpriced ) paracetamol/aspirin products to have a wee sideline in producing cheap strong alcohol! :hihi:

OK, I'll tell you the story of my life... :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
No prob anyway, I couldn't chill you out with Stringz even if I wanted to ;)

Well knida :-o check out my sig, the girl on the home page is chickie aka "chicken head" she had some problems, but had a good life.

Post

Oh yeah, that zoo I knew about - I thought you were talking about giraffes and elephants :hihi:
Sorry about Chickie :( My sister had a dog many years ago, his rear legs were paralized and my bro-in-law wanted to have him put to sleep. My sis refused to let him do that, and the dog (Jack was the name) lived a very happy life, he ran around all day with his rear legs as straight as a pole (he had learned to use them even if they didn't bend), looking like some crazy cangaroo, but as cheerful and happy to be alive as any other dog :)

Elephants? Well, my stepfather is fairly big but... :hihi:

Jack sounds like he was a happy dog, it seems to me that animals don't complain about much unless there very badly treated and even then they can be brought around with the right care many times I think.

Thanks for you kind words Mac. :)

hmmm ... I maybe had a zoo until lately ... I have two cats, and having children, there is an assortment of stuffed and plastic animals around, and I refer to all my family as my bunnies .... but when I had my allotment, all sorts of creatures used to come in with the veg and slither and crawl around the place! .... but the most persistent was a wee creature called the 'bacon beetle', or 'domestic beetle' ... fkn hundreds of them everywhere . and a proportianate population of spiders feeding on them .. though not as successfully as I would have liked!

Anyway, I got fed up of the buggers and poisoned them!! .. still feel sorry for the spiders, but hey, they were gonna starve anyway with the beetle massacre, so it was prob kinder to poison them at the same time..... only regret really is that I feed my cats too well... my old cat, had she been alive, would have eaten the beetles for fun! ... and saved me all the grief! :hihi:

@ abstractcats: True, animals are able to enjoy life to its fullest, if people let them :)

Post

Tattie, unfortunately I do have problems with ants and spiders, too, now and then... I do my best to drive them away using any means available, but when I finally have to use poison, I feel so very guilty :( :(
Its funny nobody has developed repellents for them... I guess they're not considered important enough :( Too bad...

Yeah .. which reminds me .. Cheetah, the chimp mate of Tarzan is not very well, and may be on the way out! 76 years old, he has actually achieved more than any of us will ever interms of popular appeal, and has had a longer and more pampered retirement than we can dream of, but we'll still be sad when he dies ..... maybe we should take inspiration and guidance from our old chimp mate ...... and do what you do do well!

Post

Mac, get active befoe you get angry! poison the bastards! ... permithrin! nasty stuff, but does the biz! dispose of it carefully ( check online ... its not easy if you care about environment )... but I can report that life is better when you no longer have the daily guilt about how you kill/dispose of beasties! I would vacuum them up in the comforting mindset they could live on, but no matter how much I vacuumed, their numbers stayed at constant pest level ... poison the bastards!!! reclaim your home!! :x
