Did anyone succeed downloading / creating new developer account on the Steinberg website for getting the latest VST SDK files recently?

I tried for days now with different browsers, computers and operating systems and accounts. It always says it can't log into and claims that I'm probably too stupid to type my created login phrases right:

An error occurred during login. Most likely you didn't enter the username or password correctly.
Be certain that you enter them precisely as they are, including upper/lower case.
Another possibility is that cookies might be disabled in your webbrowser.
"

I can't believe that they are probably too ****** to get a simple website login managed. I did confirm the emails and my browsers do allow cookies and correct typing is just a requirement for a coder...

I contacted them also with no success.

I'm having the same problem.

I think the problem is in the link they send to activate the account:

"http://www.steinberg.net/en/company/3rd ... g_pi1[hash (http://www.steinberg.net/en/company/3rd_party_developer/sdk_download_portal.html?tx_p77sbaccounting_pi1%5Bhash)]=........................."

where there is "[hash]" which sounds strange to me...

I think that the link is not resolved correctly when clicked and the main page is loaded, but the activation is not processed...

If you suspect the square bracket characters are causing a problem (and they might, since they're in the set of "reserved characters" having special meanings), try URL-encoding them. Substitute %5Bhash%5D for [hash] and see whether that works.

I suspect that too.

I tried many strings in place of [hash]:

"#","%23","%5Bhash%5D","%5B%23%5D","%5B#%5D"

but nothing... Other ideas?

Semi-relevant: have you signed up for the vst-plugins mailing list? Or does that come with (or after) successful account creation?

you are asked to login/register your account in order to download files.

After registration form, they send the confirm-mail to your e-mail where you should click the link they provide to you for completing the registration.

My own is

"http://www.steinberg.net/en/company/3rd ... ........a9 (http://www.steinberg.net/en/company/3rd_party_developer/sdk_download_portal.html?tx_p77sbaccounting_pi1%5Bhash%5D=7b............a9)"

I think somebody shold notify this problem to steinberg about the wrong generation of the confirm-link.

It's for plug-in developers but it might be a good way to get the attention of someone at Steinberg.

I had also trouble creating the developer account to download the SDK (more than a year ago). I just contacted them with the error report (and screen shot) and ultimately they were able to get me in.

I first tried to setup a 3rd Party Developer Account and run into the same problem as everyone else. The activation link just took you back to the login page. So you are caught in a Catch 22 situation.

So I then setup a normal account with them and once I had activated that I then upgraded this to a 3rd Part Developer account and I was away.

Since nobody has answered the question I've asked twice, I'll assume none of the previous posters (except DrumAliens) succeeded at signing up for the vst-plugins mailing list. I've just posted this to the list:

In this thread at KVR, several prospective plug-in developers describe trouble they're having over the past few days trying to complete the sign-up process. When these devs click the account activation link in their confirmation email, they're sent to the wrong page and their account is not activated.

Here is a representative post (I've removed the middle of the hash value):

It looks to me as if a malformed account activation link might be the problem; it contains square bracket characters, which are considered reserved chars in the URL definition. Or perhaps something else is at fault. Whatever it is, some sort of trouble is keeping devs from getting started.

Any ideas I can pass on to these folks? (I'll give you full credit, naturally.) Or if you can help, feel free to post in the KVR thread.

thank you for posting the troubles you are experiencing at the moment with the successful completion of the 3rd Party Developer account registration.

@Meffy: I have read your post on the mailing list as well, thanks for letting us know.

We are already aware of this issue which only affects a part of the accounts.
We are working on a solution.

In the meantime please drop us a short email at info@steinberg.de (mailto:info@steinberg.de) describing your problem (please include your username and registered email address) and we will set you up manually.

UPDATE: You may also try this workaround if you like before contacting us:
In the activation link you will see this part:
company/3rd_party_developer/sdk_download_portal

replace it with:
mysteinberg

Example:
The original link is:
http://www.steinberg.net/de/company/3rd ... g_pi1[hash (http://www.steinberg.net/de/company/3rd_party_developer/sdk_download_portal.html?tx_p77sbaccounting_pi1%5Bhash)]=... and the actual hash code

The modified link would be:
http://www.steinberg.net/de/mysteinberg ... g_pi1[hash (http://www.steinberg.net/de/mysteinberg.html?tx_p77sbaccounting_pi1%5Bhash)]=... and the actual hash code

SECOND UPDATE: We have fixed the problem for any new users signing up for a developer account starting now (June 14th 2010, 2 pm GMT+1). These users will already receive the correct activation link.

If you have signed up before you can try the workaround or of course contact us.

This problem does not seem to be fixed. I have followed the instructions provided above and am still getting the error message below when I click on the account activation link provided in the e-mail.
