Please post the preset then. If you can do that i would really be impressed. Good luck.
btw, a preset would be meaningless because you're not me and you don't have my guitar but I'll post a clip.

no, a preset would be very useful.

Thanks Peter for your post. I knew that if you were to say something it would bethis kind of marketing talk but thanks !

It wasn't marketing talk at all. AmpliTube stands up and stands out. We're not the only ones who say it, think it, or show it. At that, I'll say I've taken a tiny bit of the bait and will take no more. This fish isn't hooked :) I hope this is a fruitful thread as it progresses.

That in itself proves to me that you don't know what you're doing. A preset? What's the point? Unless you have an old Steinberger with .09s set on the mid and bridge pickups going into a bypassed Blackstar HT-5 Dual Dist and then into a MOTU 828 set on the same levels it's not going to sound the same and to those without AT3 it proves nothing at all. Sure, I'll post a preset in the preset exchange, but without a clip it's pretty much meaningless. There's few presets that I've found that don't get a bunch of tweaking anyway. Stop being a douche bag. Please don't tell me. You've got a barbed wire tattoo on your bicep don't you?

I know for one thing input volume for instrument preamps on sub>$300 interfaces have all sounded different to me, and all put out different amounts of gain.

The tascam us-144 I have has the weakest output from the instrument preamp. The focusrite saffire 6 has a screaming instrument output, I actually have to trim some before guitar rig see's it. The presonus firebox I have is right in the middle.

On the same preset, say for example the Plexi model, at all the same settings, running the tascam it sounds like a clean guitar amp because the input volume is so low. Running the focusrite, the input volume is so high the amp is distorting right away.

So, zerocrossing has a point about presets not being 100% interchangeable between different people.

However, they obviously do help get you in the ballpark. With adjustments to the gain change, not taking into account different pickups you should be able to get relatively close.

Just listen to the audioclips of axe fx and tell me that you can make it sound as good as that with AT or any other ampsims: http://www.g66.eu/index.php?option=com_ ... Itemid=149

NO WAY!!!

@zerocrossing: i take the freedom to ignore your off topic :p

Peter, thanks again for not taking my rant just as blatant trolling.

Do you remember this AT3 thread where you somehow evoked allowing someone to go and meet with the IK engineers in Italy? I'd really like to go there and actually meet the guys and discuss with them about their science/craft.

Well, they kinda didn't, but Cliff actually has said specifically "if you want a cheap sound, go with a cheap program like Guitar Rig or Amplitube" in the past. And he is FractalAudio. He dismisses the competition in his user manual and has for years.

Of course everyone feels they have the best... But he's been rather aggressive in his promotion of the AxeFX as FINALLY giving REAL tone, competitors need not apply. Just marketing, but it is how some of these companies operate, n'est-ce pas?

I'd be happy to give it a go. Click on the link in my signature and look at the first page of my blog - let me know what kind of software you would like to hear. I guess by default I should go with Amplitube 3 since IKMM is directly called out in this thread, though.

Honest opinon - those clips in the thread you linked are good but not exceptional representations of recorded high-gain sounds (the first clip is a little indistinct and "flat," works for a certain kind of music of course; the second has better definition but lacks punch in my opinion, would probably sound fine mixed competently, and I do appreciate the Queensrÿche riff). Clips like that aren't the sort of clips that make me go "Wow, all that marketing about the AxeFX being the one true modeling software is RIGHT!"

Edit for clarity: You know, just to be clear, I'm not saying it sounds bad. Just that it doesn't sound better than state of the art software running on more general platforms (you might object that the AxeFX is a hardware unit, but let's be real, it's software too; the TigerSHARC processors in the units are powerful for their idiom but not more powerful than any modern desktop computer, not by a long shot, and they're running code like any other modeling software... it's a difference in platform, not in type). Cliff is a good programmer and his work has a consistently high level of quality, but it isn't some unattainable mountain looming above the field, not by a long shot - like any other well programmed modeling software, results vary depending on the gear, talent, skill, and competence of the user in composing the song, in playing the instrument, in recording (and in this step I include actually tweaking the patches on the AxeFX), and in mixing.

Everyone is invited to take part. You are free to choose the modeller. You are even free to choose any combination of plugs, as long as it does not contain the axe fx.

Just do it :)

sweet whatever-god-you-pray-to the AxeFx, especially the Ultra, is expensive, and those audio clips were pretty underwhelming. It's definitely not in the same league as Soldano or Bogner. :band: Some of the songs on their site are pretty nice, but the high-gain sounds still fall flat to me.

I'd rather pay for Amplitube 3 to be honest. Or spend much less on an isolation cab for my existing amp. Hell, I'd buy a used Uberschall and an isolation cab before buying an AxeFX.
Meh.
