One-Synth-Challenge 17 ... de la Mancha's 'Basic64'

Despite the change in the time limit, here is my track for the competition ( http://www.4shared.com/account/audio/g6 ... iuiiu.html ). Its a dubstep influenced electrotrack, so expect heavy low end action and bassdriven track.
What was used :
Host: Fl Studio 9.0.3
Basic64 ( not Texture ) instances x 20
FX: FL native EQ ( automated as a lp in bassline ), FL native stereo widening, BootEQMk2, classic reverb in two sends, classic delay in one send, modern exciter, few instances of Modern Compressor and classic limiter in master
It was bit harder than I thought to bring basic64 to work with me in this one, not because of the synth, but the direction of the track I was making. Never really done any dubstep orianted music before, except some early attempts at drumm&bass.
Basic64 it self is a bit quirky sometimes, it is still easy to use and suprisingly powerfull sound wise. It's really easy to get raw sounding bottom-mid end with it.
I'm relatively happy with the track, but there is allways more to tweak. Nevertheless I like to stay in the original timetable, so I can start working on other things.

Tattie, would you consider adding a text file to your 4Shared site that simply documents start and end dates of the various OSC's, as well as synths chosen for upcoming (but unstarted) comps? I think it would help us (well, me, anyway) keep track of the various comps/synths by having a central place to go for this information. It would pile a little more work onto your plate, however, so feel free to ignore this!tattiemannie wrote:I will launch OSC18 soon, so those who have their tracks done at least get some benefit in that they can get moving with their OSC18 tracks will the rest of us are still doin a track for this comp![]()
I'll go change the date in the 1st post to rule out any confusion.
Thanks,
Batgab

The Abstractcat virus is spreading...batgab wrote:uiiuiiu, I'm sure you meant basic64, right?uiiuiiu wrote: Texture instances x 20

Yes, the virus could be spreading indeed!
I'm sure uiiuiiu used Basic64, as was mentioned later in the post. I just pointed it out here in case the text file that comes with the recording also has the typo in it.

Yes, I meant basic64 of coarse, used the same .txt file as in the texture osc as a template and didn't notice to change that.uiiuiiu, I'm sure you meant basic64, right?
If tattiemannie would be nice enough to delete the text file, I'll overwrite it with a right one.

Cheers for the submission uiiuiiu ..
... erroneous text file deleted..
Batgab, if you click on the 4shared link in my sig below, there is a text file with links to all the previous OSC threads. there is also a link in there to the previous OSC tracks folder, each of which is dated.
I'm not sure from your text if you know that already and you are looking for this to be presented in a different format, but I'll bear in mind your comment about dates/proposed dates for comps which are running and those yet to start.

OK batgab, I thought it would be simple to get ahead of the game and collect those dates ... however there seems to be a problem with the older links on the existing textfile ... I'll check this out further, but this could mean a chunk of work which I dont have time for right now, sorry ... i'll see what i can do though.

Nah, don't worry about the past OSC's, Tattie. Maybe all I'm really suggesting is that we have a single place to go to when we want to see what synth has been chosen for future, unstarted comps, and perhaps approximate timeframe for the next, as-yet-unstarted comp(s). I realize this may not be what I wrote originally...
For example, I'm not sure which synth has been chosen for the OSC following Basic64, though it's probably been announced here someplace. Maybe I'm just too lazy to go find it!
Seriously, don't make any major effort to do this!
Thanks,
Batgab

Yes agree, a clear and easy web site with names, links and dates would be really nice for these comps. I've been checking a little bit into google sites for a page and some free file hosting that allows direct link with no fuss, so far archive.org looks possible. They are all free and not likely to go down for the foreseeable future. Or maybe just a blog would be easier than a page. If anyone has some tips or knows how to make it or something similar let us know.

Good point batgab, so here's the info now while I ponder how I set something up to take care of this issue in future
OSC18 .... Starts anytime between tonight and Thursday. cant give any more info re other dates ... I'll explain in a minute.
OSC17 Submissions close/Votes begin 12th July.
Right, to take account of the fact my time and energy is being dragged in different directions at the moment, I feel I have to revise the way timescales are set.
So from now on, each competition will have a lifespan of 8 weeks.
launch to submissions ... 4 weeks
Voting phase ... 3 weeks ... congrats and prize one week.
The launch of the next competition will coincide with the close of submissions, and the commencement of voting for the previous comp. the nice thing about this system is that although we will continue to have two comps running sinultaneously, the all important last week of submissions for any comp will coincide only with the congrats, thanks, and prize arrangement re, the previous comp. As far as poss, all finishes will be on a Sunday, all starts will be on a Monday.
like this ( if it works )
Wk1. . . . Wk2 . . . Wk3. . . . Wk4 . . . Wk5 . . . Wk6 . . . Wk7. . . . Wk8 . . .
\. . . . . . \. . . . . . \. . . . . . \. . . . . . \. . . . . . \. . . . . .\. . . . . . \. . . . . . \
. \<------ submissions comp(a)-------->\<-----Votes comp(a)------>\<
>\
. . \<------Votes comp(b)------>\<
>\<----- submissions comp(b)-------->\
The only snag is that I will have to launch a comp and post a vote thread on the same night ... but if time is an issue, then it should be no big deal if there is a day, or half a day of difference between one post and another .... and if there is any delay in dealing with prizes, or finishing off a participants prize, then I will be dealing with this issue at the early ( non urgent end of voting and submission stages.
So, any potential snags I've not thought through?

Thats a nice idea V'ger, but despite the crash course I've had in web publishing of late, I'm still crap wit websites
.... you know, it might be about time to start outsourcing my weaknesses, and think about getting a couple of regular OSCers to take on organisational roles and really make this comp run a bit less at the mercy of my erratic schedule

Anything that doesn't create any problem to you is fine with me
I must say, however, that I don't see any reason for two comps to overlap, and I also think a little bit of time between comps to catch some breath wouldn't be that bad... I think we could just close a competion (meaning track upload, voting phase, prize/congrats) and after a couple of days start over with the following osc. I believe that would allow us to avoid confusion and the competitors could work in a more relaxed condition and maybe even enjoy it more.
And there would be a lot less stress for you

Erratic schedules, yeah, that's the word (well, two words)... we all have that, so spacing deadlines a little would give us all the chance to work better

Absolutely, I wasn't thinking of laying more work on you. It was something I would do or even a joint account where others could chip in. Kinda like a wiki, I'll check into that too.tattiemannie wrote:Thats a nice idea V'ger, but despite the crash course I've had in web publishing of late, I'm still crap wit websites.... you know, it might be about time to start outsourcing my weaknesses, and think about getting a couple of regular OSCers to take on organisational roles and really make this comp run a bit less at the mercy of my erratic schedule
What I had in mind was something super-simple with just start/end date, name of synth and links to songs (and maybe an mp3 player) and then a score board at the end. Something that would take less than 5 minutes to update.
