What is this breathing sound found in several tracks?

How to make that sound...

There's a breathing-like, sidechained noise effect I've heard a few times, for example:

Deadmau5 - I Remember, very beginning:

EDX - Casa Grande, very beginning:

I've also heard it in a few other tracks, like for example Solarity - Terminal 6 (Incognet Remix) at the beginning.

Now, where does this pleasant sound effect come from? (I'm wildly guessing one of the Vengeance packs) And also, how would you reproduce it?

It's sidechained noise.

Or a combo of that, reverb and a vocal exhale of some sort.

Well yes. But it's always the exact same sound, pitch and sidechaining which makes me think it's a sample included somewhere. Unless there's a formant filter plugin or something that transforms noise into that by default.

AAAAARRRRRGH I just listened to the clips with bass heavy headphones and the sidechaining pumping sound made me feel like my brains was literally being pumped out of my skull through my ears! This is my body warning me against sidechaining! hard wired evolutionary self defense mechanism !!!

sounds more like a reverb tail being sidechained to me you'll need a reverb with the ability to freeze its buffer.

The question of course, is a reverb tail of what? :hihi:

I still say it's an exhale of some sort, possibly on a sample pack somewhere but I have no idea which one!

Is that like Audio Damage Eos? The "Infinite" button. It makes the tail go on forever.

That is indeed a sample, its too identical and characteristic to be a (onpurpose) processing artifact.

Perhaps for filtering needs you might want to check out Tone2 FilterBank3.

try a snare hit and compress the crap out of the reverb tail.

Wow, I managed to get some interesting and close results by sidechaining really long reverbs from claps and various percussion sounds. I haven't really used the reverb as an instrument before, but I certainly will now. Reverbed shakers sound more interesting than pure white noise for example.

Without listening to the examples, I would say this from my own experience...

- long reverb on the clap or snare used in your track which is then
sidechained (using the clap/snare is easiest to give the sound coherance
wihin your track, but not essential)
- play around with the sidechaining level/strength for desired effect or even
extra rythmic expression (automate it at points for fun)
- no need for a buffer freezing reverb... simply render out the reverb tail
without the sidechaining then nicely crossfade a bunch of renders and apply
sidechaining to this great everlasting (or as long as you make/need it)
reverb tail

This could apply to deep housey chord reverbs as well or just about everything :)
Reverbnation
see ya 'round...

I found it today by accident. :) VFX2 Impacts 24.wav from Vengeance Sound Effects Vol. 2. Not that I want to use any identifiable sounds, but still a bit interesting... or something.
