(bluedad takes deep breath)
who am I? A 47 year old piano tuner in Birmingham Alabama. I have been working on pianos for 28 years; my father is a piano tuner. It is deeply ingrained in me; pianos is what I iz. It is a job that combines the best of both working with hands and using the mind! The best part, is getting to play these amazing beasts when I am done! (Ahh, the 9 foot Steinway played in the empty Alabama Theatre!) Along the way, played in several bands. Many, many honky-tonk dives, backing up so many local has-been legends who still think they are a star, until I really want to vomit at the thought of it all.
Ok, this is about me
My goal in life, at this stage, is simply be the best that I can be in my profession. I've joined a national organization of piano tuners, and I've been preparing to take their exams. (And they are picky picky f**kers!)
When I became passionate about my work, I discovered happiness. I am basically content. I live in a house my grandparents, and parents lived in, so I have deep roots. I love my yard because it's huge, and almost so overgrown with trees and bushes that it feels very private. I love my wife, kids and dogs, grandkids (am I the only grandfather here?) and playing music.
I go through phases where I will exercise like mad and get in great shape, then slack off. When I begin to huff and puff going up steps, I know it's time to resume. I do try to do yoga in order to stay flexable enough for crawling under pianos.
Meditation has always fascinated me, although I fall asleep if my eyes are shut longer than 120 seconds. So, I do have a passion for naps; especially on the loveseat.
Egads! I've written a book here! Finish, man!
I love music I've never heard before - bands y'all have recommended (Smiths, Pink Dots, Pixies etc..) I love the music posted in cafe, I listen to everything!

Who?

Thorsten Puttenat, born in 74, so 27 years old now.
Grown up in a small town in south-germany, 2 older sisters, going to school...the normal way.
Did a lot of sports, mainly tennis. (every day, with playing tournaments and stuf, lolo.)Also squash, handball and free-time-football for fun. (soccer).
My family is not a musically family, though I started singing very very soon. (covered Dylan´s "blowin in the wind" when i was about 6, with a bontempi-air-organ.
In 83/84 I got in contact with Rap-Music - pheww...this really got me going. Did some breakdance, and most of all I started learning doing the human-beat-box, drums with my mouth.
When I was 16 I had my first band, with me as the singer. I didnt think at that time that I was becoming a musician - it was just the singing.
(we covered The Smiths and Housemartins, and did songs being that style.) We quit 2 years later, but I started a new band - again as just the singer.
At that time I was asked by a german rap band If I´d like to be their human-beat-box.
I agreed, and we got signed at Zyx-records for a single deal, did an expensive video that was on VIVA for only 2 times.
We then got signed, in 1994, at Virgin Records. We released 2 singles, both flopped.
I meanwhile also sang/rapped and did the music for the band with the bands sampler (ensoniq eps16 + Atari ST and cubase).

After realizing that I love this sampling-stuff I left the band and concentrated on my own music, which was to explore.
Did my first solo-album and sold it on my own more than 500 times.

In 1998 I got a job as the Off-Voice for a small cable-tv-station, and that brought me to these Simpsons, MickyMouse and Mad-TV-spots I lend my voice for. (beside other commercial spots)
At the same time I also started selling music - In 99 I did the music for a Konica-TVspot that was in televison all over the world.
Since then I made my living from music and speaking for commercial spots.

What I am doing now?

Several music-jobs, at the moment I do the loops for the http://www.hugoboss.com website.
And in September the movie starts going to be in cinema´s in germany, holland, france, belgium, italy and taiwan - I did the whole score for.

Working on my new Seepferdchen2-album, trying to find a label with it at the moment, playing gigs with my 2-man-band Putte&Edgar, writing little guitar-singersongwriter songs and starting doing the music for a TVdocumentation.

My aims?

Puhh...as many people here mentioned depressions:
I also have mine, and I really really want to get rid off these silly fears I am carrying with me.
I want to get a better person, I want to be more responsible for my body, I smoke much to much cannabis, I eat bad and sit slouch.
I have a wonderful girl since 3 years now - a long-distance thingie (800km.)
It´s a big big challenge still, and there´s so much to learn in it. Yes - I want to learn handling myself better.

kvr:
(even though I didnt write that much the last weeks, I still read it all and love you guys a lot.)

take care
putte

I want to say, Perfection exists !!! I had a perfect childhood : absolute joyful moments, laughts by the billions, I think, I optimized every opportunity to have great times !!!

Then a black hole of several years ... pension for boys with the cream of arrogant assholes, no fun, just males jostling to be the dominant + girls of this age who weren't "finished" in their head + many many other things

I was bored to death and disappointed by " overall future perspectives "
Push fast forward on these utterly shitty times, now I work in a hospital lab, I won't comment on this because ... ahem ... kvr is bookmarked there !!!

I'am full tilt passions and excess, and trying to be reasonable or "normal" would mean death to me ...

My dream : one day earn some just decent money from my music to quit my job and work at least 12 hours a day, well it's not work, it's addiction !!!!

I have *lots* of interests and passions but time lacks to feed all these hungry gremlins there are though 2 huge that come first : surf and ski, as much adrenalin or feelings as music, uh narcotics again !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some grim pieces of thoughts because I'am not all grins : we are nothing, one little asteroid like the one who has been spotted recently and zap ! and ... we live in disneyland compared to those "elsewhere" who work to death, starve and will die young ... be aware of that ...

Perhaps Carl Jung's writings will interest you xoxos. He came up with the idea of synchronicity and also theorized that instict (or maybe intuition) is actually a product of a complex unconscious mental process. Some people label him as a parapsychologist, but I think he is a genius. I am studying to be a clinical psychologist, and Jung is one of my heroes.

HEY putte man

I did breakdance as well
do you still know how to do the windmill the tutle and the spider ...or perhaps even the headspin ?
hiphop had my interest as little kid (11 years old)
it wasn't a big thing on the radio back then
I bought records via the father of a friend who went to new York for his work often
artist I listened to were ... whodini / love bug starksky / grandmaster flash / grand master melly melle
I wasn't until the breakdance movie beatstreet hit I decided to go and rap myself
this rap song had wonderful lyrics .. far from the egotistic materialistic later bull crap in the field of ghetto music
as a kid of parents who hung around drug addicts and other big time losers I could identify with the lives of suburban kids in the world
even more when my parents split up and I got adopted by black kids in my hometown
did some criminal activities I regret later on but I did learn how to be independent and free

nowadays rap don't interest me ... besides outstanding acts like spearhead or mc 900 ft Jesus
I always look for good content in a song ... most rap don't give me that anymore

kajiki ... IMO Jung was a pathfinder in trying to describe "parapsychological" brain processes, but offered very little as practical advice on how to enhance these processes and make better use of them.

But give him his due ... for his time he was a leader in pointing towards the possible, and helped open many doorways.

Yo, Kev...Based on what I've heard from you now, I wonder if you've heard of the Esalen Institute or if you've read either "The Holographic Universe" by Michael Talbott or "The Future of the Body" by Michael Murphy. I think those 2 books might be right up your alley.

That's very true kevvvvv. He sure was a troubled schizophrenic explorer. I think he should be praised for being one of the first ones to combine psychology and anthropology. Clinical psychology tends to get very ethnocentric because the general definition of mental disorders probably is "failure to adapt to the environment." In this context, the environment is the society and the culture. So someone can be "abnormal" if only a specific cultural context is given. Freud said all the mental disorders were caused by repressed sexuality, but that was valid only in the Victorian culture. That cannot apply to, say, the old Japanese culture where pornography was art and people could write serious writings about sexuality. Jung departed from Freud because he couldn't stand Freud's narrow-minded ideas.

Actually early this morning, I was trying to write a lengthy post that describes "parapsychological" brains but soon gave up because I realized I couldn't do it in a short article. I think parapsychological brains and artistic brains and schizophrenic brains are all alike. Depending on how you use that kind of brain, you could become creative/talented or very sick.

sharing information in public forums is always appreciated, but for the record i did not ask, i told. i am telepathic.. or, more frequently, clairaudiant/clairvoyant.

but who is this jung fellow again? *glib laughter*

and thanks for making me feel truly welcome, poweruser. i doubt you'll ever run low on self-amusement with a wit of that calibre.

Post

yeah .. I know it was completely OTT

Just couldn't resist it ... one of those days

And you're still very welcome

Post

i agree ... i will never run low on self-amusement ! if there is one person not to be taken seriously on this planet it must be "the innerself" or "the ego" or however we call the fellow

and to be honest .... besides from joking every now and then, i truly love the contacts i have here ... with good musicians like you ....
thats the fun thing ( or the shitty ) thing about me ... you`ll never find out when i`m getting serious.

by the way my american pal .. sorry for my bad english.

Post

damn ...what am i appoligizing for ...
it is merely logic to have a problem with spelling, with a wit of my calibre

Post

Poweruser!
Never apologize for your English. You're a polyglot, a musician, and a poet and therefore have artistic license to do whatever you please with language, sound(as if the two can really be separated) and every other form of self expression in which you partake...

...and yes, you're a witty frood too...

That’s right
a polyglot I am
a world civilian ... more then a man.
trying to pave a path
for the little girl who’s
always uppermost in my thoughts
constantly torturing me with the idea
I have inconsiderably brought her into a
world that is being separated by religion
world that is being separated by culture
world that is being controlled by a ignorant multitude that is only willing to change if there neighbour does. hope I can make a contribution to worldpeace. missiles in every place, can destroy the human race ... and everyone is crying for more money; And i`m growing slightly mad
If the definition for a poet is "a person that hides in dream worlds" yeah I am a poet as well. If the definition of a musician is “a person that loves music and tries to be a part of all music” I am probably a musician as well. And one thing I do besides it all is act …. I recently acted in a commercial for lease cars. So self expression is important to me … however .. becoming independent has always been my goal but I never seemed to have succeeded in that. The commercial will be on Dutch tell-lie-vision in November. Thanks for trying to make me feel good about myself ! it is appreciated. You are a nice and friendly guy
and a good musician (still listen to paradiso often) and a verbal wonder.
