That Funk Mothership definitely needs to land in your garden. They'll bring a synth for ya, and take away the cowbell.

Funny thing is, the link isn't working, nor is that forum!K-Bee wrote:

Go to Sub Forums > Funk in General, first thread you see. I even got one star for that thread (meaning it's 'terrible'
Anyway. Thank you for the suggestion of www.back2basics.biz. I've just sent an email to the owner and hopefully I'll be allowed in. I might see you there!

Here at last!!! But I'll be no more than a shadow for the next three weeks as I'm not at home, working and travelling.himalaya wrote:Coctor, my man! How long did it take you to show up!

Reading your post, we could be twins joined at the hip!![]()
Isn't there something primordial in that track ? It's like, when Log created the Synth, the Synth played that music. Mr.Duke just tuned in many years later, and channeled the spirit of the Synth. (no, I don't smoke, I tell ya).
Haha, primordial is an excellent word for that. This track is a rare gem indeed. As you already described, it's perfect because it's not too jazzy. It's never too much, it leaves you wanting more and doesn't choke you. It's a total tease, a perfect balance.
More of the same? I wish! I get about 5 minutes of internet time around here, one PC for a whole office. So not only can I not hear any of the interesting examples mentioned here (15 year old PC and no admin rights), but it'll take me forever to reply to anything, and I can't go through my collection. Sorry about that.
Dammit, I'm shut out here. Well, at least we're funkified twins.

I do too now.Chuck E. Jesus wrote:always dug this track:
If I ever catch myself saying something is 'phat', I'll think of this song. Some very cool sounds there. I really like the 'space' in this track, the sounds don't fight for room, the frequency spectrum is not obliterated by unison leads as is the norm nowdays...excellent.

Yeah, you know it.The unshushable Coktor wrote:This track is a rare gem indeed. As you already described, it's perfect because it's not too jazzy. It's never too much, it leaves you wanting more and doesn't choke you. It's a total tease, a perfect balance.
Another way to put it is... this is 'body and spirit' music, where as if it had stronger Jazz overtones, it would be 'mind' music.

Here, some more early George Duke to better fill your 5 minutes of internet time, this one in particular, a cool mix of hammond, clavinet, synth solos. Yeah! Me likes. Just wait for that synth riff at 3:32! This is pure GOLD!:

Yeah, it's a shame that the main characters of 1970s Funk music have no follow ups to that sound...and it doesn't need to be made on a Moog either. Let them do it on Synth1 instead! Or Krakli's Vurtbox.
And now for something entirely different:
