I like this one alot. I like the changes, and it's nicely sophisticated in that way. I love the gorgeous melodic solo line in the middle, and I love the fact that it takes a journey and builds to something, which I kind of miss in a lot of the other entries. That's clearly a personal bias though.
Thank you for those kind comments. My day is suddenly a lot better.

it sounded very 'Zappaesque' to me, and he received the same..you loved or hated his music.

1105_thomasliebe_kaenguruqualm.mp3 -> Enjoyed your vocal delivery. This is one of those songs that takes a bunch of sounds I don't particularly like individually and uses them in a way that works for me as a whole - nicely done. As the song continues, I like it more and more.
thanks Echo - it was "something different" to me as it is not my usual genre and was done more happygoabsurdfun and not dramatical as other stuff..:D

Love the sounds, and the variation in the music. Love the electronic drum sounds for this piece. Really well done. Never boring, and more than that, genuinely fun to listen to. There's a lot of stuff here I wish I could do.
Hey - glad you liked the tune, indeed the aim was not to bore over the duration and make it ideally going on in a homogeneous way :)

Daft fun (maybe not for the burning kangaroos). Excellent "Hey!"

Thx - the daft fun is sometimes a real busy task - some kind of ideal :P

D.H. Miltz wrote:ohmdsp, from the series of posts in the submissions thread I got the impression that your (second) entry is a recycled already-finished song ("ah, that one's too long, I'll just enter this one instead"). Is that right?
Still curious.

At last found time to listen to some more entries!

LagunaRising Meta-Muzak
Rather different from your usual entries. This has a degree of craziness, that even makes Max seem pedestrian. I thought it fell apart just a little too much towards just before the end.

Patrick9 Moonshine
Delicious guitar work right from the start. On phones the synth part is totally to one side which is a shame as it sort of detaches it from everything else.

marymary long summer shadows
Well I had no idea what to expect here. This is really first class. It's unusual to have an entry on here that totally leads with the drums, and I really like this. Somewhat jealous too as I'm crap with percussion!

sepheritoh those taken by the moon
A sort of pastoral theme but brought up to the 21st centuary. Love that bass, then that lead that comes in about halfway - very different.

Timothee Mayflowers
I've come to expect high quality work from you, after hearing so many of your tracks over the 'other' side, and this is no exception, although a totally different style! Simple dance idea, but well produced.

DHMiltz TarPitsoftheMoon
Well, another surprise! Where have you been hiding? I've never heard anything like this from you before. More please!

deafsteever echovoodoo goingdownslow
This has all the classic blues features. Very good, but why did you record it Mono? Clock in the background at the end - curious.

Jerru Call To Glory
Very dramatic intro. Great clarity, detail and... dynamics!

iiiDaNiii InThisWay
Not really for me I'm afraid, but nicely done, albeit somewhat disjointed.

ohmdsp Turn It Up
Hmmm. Another one that really doesn't work for me - sorry.

GMoneh WaitingForSpring
Pleasant enough, but needed more variation, especially in the left hand. Also, the strings are almost hiding most of the time.

peppy197 Eberswalde
I like the overall idea, but it comes over as somewhat disorganised and pasted together.

SLDMusic Hijacked
Now this is really original. Love it!

thomekk kaenguruqualm
Oh dear - Not for me. I'll pass.

MaxelB Blabla
Santa has been generous again hasn't he! You know, I do believe you've actually got one foot still on the ground this time.

bluedad Sun Salutations
Lots of guitar goodness in this, and some nice vocal harmonies. Curious finish.

nikp2000 may song
Don't know what to make of this. It's very short, and the lead somehow doesn't quite fit with the rest.

adj Days Gone By
At first this reminded me very strongly of 'eye to eye' style wise. Very glad to see you back here again, and with a great song. Pity the end had to be chopped so abruptly.

ParadoxUn MetroidRevisited
Ouch, at the start that went right through me. I found myself instantly reaching for the bass control and tuning it way down. From 0:54 I started to like it, then the end is just chopped hard.

Steve recorded his guitar with a Boss MicroBR recorder while on the couch in his living room. So, mono mic. Even if he'd used a stereo mic, it's one guitar played straight through. He didn't notice the clock on his wall ticking in the background. I left it in largely because it would have been difficult to remove without affecting the tail of that last guitar note. Besides, a song dealing with mortality and the sound of a clock ticking seemed to work, conceptually.

I recorded my vocal with a stereo recorder (Zoom H2), but it's just one vocal track, so it's effectively mono anyway. There's only a bit of reverb added to the vocal.

I could have tried to stereo-fy things with a doubler, or a delay on one channel, or extra reverb, but I decided to keep it simple and straight-forward. Seemed to fit the style better, in my mind. Old country blues tracks like the one that inspired this recording tended to be single-take, single microphone affairs.

Thank you for the very nice comment, folderol. :)

I really put a lot of worry and sweat into this "song". Didn't want to make (too much of) a fool of myself the first time out.

I'm very anxious to see the theme for next month so I have another target to shoot for (and another deadline to meet). Little by little, I might actually get better at this whole music making thing. Then again...

I would also love to collaborate with someone at some point (i.e. I take direction well...)

EV how you liking that Zoom?

I  my Zoom H4n with the multi-tracking feature. I just play my scratch track in stereo, record vocals/guitars/etc in either mono or 2-track stereo alongside, then widen in FLS. At 24/96k it's so clear that you can truly hear in my song how stuffed up my nose is from this raging hay fever I have.

Oh, I love my Zoom. One of my 5 best purchases for this music hobby thingy - haven't regretted buying it once.

@EV thanks for the explanation. It is rather what I suspected, and yes it works :)
