I noticed the top end loss too, hard to say if it's like the hardware since I've never used one. Have to insert eq to get the top back. But I like the compressor action itself

circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

BManic and everyone who's not terribly impressed by this plugin but interested in a tube compressor check out SKNote's GTS-39!

Yes GTS from SKnote is awesome for sure! I bought it a while back. Not for every occasion but when it works it sounds jaw dropping really

...thinking loud...it's simply awesome to read your signature and then read that you bought an heavily circuit modeled plugin GTS-39, heavily oversampled ( 8x), and also notice that you jump in all the threads about circuit modeled plugins and aliasing
So, my congratulations! You found a signature that is more "fashion" than its own content!

Yes, I find circuit modeling fascinating even though I don't understand anything about it really, only that it's the bees knees and sounds awesome!alteregoxxx wrote: ...thinking loud...it's simply awesome to read your signature and then read that you bought a circuit modeled plugin GTS-39, heavily oversampled ( 8x), and also notice that you jump in all the threads about circuit modeled plugins and aliasing![]()

..But maybe it's time to change my signature, it's been a while there. And seems to annoy some people

Oh no man! it's not annoying, it's funny! It's the perfect KVRian style!penguinfromdeep wrote:alteregoxxx wrote: ...thinking loud...it's simply awesome to read your signature and then read that you bought a circuit modeled plugin GTS-39, heavily oversampled ( 8x), and also notice that you jump in all the threads about circuit modeled plugins and aliasing![]()

Lots of compressors lose top end, it's pretty standard, and it's not like softube to unintentionally degrade the signal (which is why you pay the big dollars). My guess is, if it was not suppose to do that, then it wouldn't.penguinfromdeep wrote:I noticed the top end loss too, hard to say if it's like the hardware since I've never used one. P.s. no I haven't tried the demo.... I want too!! but the friken thing won't work. I have sent ticket to softube
Imperfection is beauty.
Normally I hate adds, but not at KVR, look at all the the toys I can get.

To some degree yes but not always "the best" (which is relative to what it is being measured against)@midnight wrote:modern production styles demand loudness, and so in this case that we find ourselves in, the best mixes are the ones that are very loud but still sound great.
did you guys know that chris lord-alge sometimes goes over 10dB on the ssl mix buss comp? i'm talking about on the stereo master. in addition to ssl channel compression and all the outboard compressors he patches in.[/quote]
Good for chris lord-alge, An old tapeOp interview with the pompous prick was a painful read and i took away nothing from it. I can easily count on one hand anything he has mashed that i like to some extent
Passion And Warfare, I Believe, Hellbilly Deluxe and No Substance (even then he did not mix and 'produce' the bulk but stuck his fat fingers in to get a credit)
Summit Audio and Solid State Logic are not the same and the hardware originals and software emulations are going to behave/sound different. Do you think Chris Lord-Alge keeps all those 'real' hardware comps for nostaglic reasons?

Tried the demo. Its nice but Decapitator is close enough for my purposes, although they can't be compared feature-wise. Both do some nifty saturation. I like the GUI though.

Yep, Andy Wallace too. Both those guys push the SSL bus comps very hard, but their mixes aren't squashed at all. It's called knowing what you are doing
Has anybody ever really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Where did i say that he does not know what he is doing
Andy Wallace, Now he is a guy that is not a pompous prick and some of the records he has worked on i have alot more time for as it happens but again
I am failing to 'get' your point it seems
What is it with this constant SSL Bum comp you have going on? Its just a VCA number which stock SSL G-Series correct is fairly limited...Gyraf do a great clone/just as good as the real deal. Why not just buy yourself one if one of the things is so precious to you Or if you have the skill (or are willing to invest sometime in learning a really useful skill) build your own clone
http://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/projects/mixbuzz/ looks like a good implementation in the 500 series format, THAT corp and/or DBX ICs for VCA and of course the most famous clone: http://www.gyraf.dk/gy_pd/ssl/ssl.htm (as mentioned above)
Having a *good* (*to each thier own here/no snobish gear dude*) hardware/outboard compressor to patch in when mic'ing source sounds up *i find* really useful (For more than just gain reduction). It definately prevents the need/want/desire for *me* anyway to have a digital analogue plug-in pulling 20dB of off a mic'd and/or DI'd bass
YMMV and OTOT do not get me wrong, Hardware is not superior to Software at all IMHHO/For teh record...but rather having a choice of both is just totally bi-winning
Edited due to half-arsed english/grammer/even left words out
