hi guys
sometimes i hear from you some suggestions about this and that, and very ofter a consideration about the processing of a single track comes out; now id like to know form you which chain of effect ( ine lectronic music) do you apply to your kick drum track

I rarely process my kick drum on its own given that the sample is high quality. What the use of that?
Wonder whether my advice worth a penny? Check my music at Soundcloud and decide for yourself.

I just filter out some subbass and add a touch o EQ, in case the kick sample has a "rich" attack and only when it's needed.
I prefer to process the whole drumtrack.

Usually with a gentle amount of bit crushing, this can add a nice grit to the sound. And a little bit of eq'ing too after that.

(sometimes) compressor and/or limiter with or without (usually slight) harmonic distortion -> (sometimes) allpass phaser and/or (slight) barberpole comb filter -> (sometimes, usually slight) flanger or chorus -> (sometimes, usually slight) delay -> (always, usually slight) reverb
equalizer (usually for fixing something) sometimes somewhere in the chain, but usually not.
In short, seemingly complex chain but not really, and often very little of that is used.

if needed - tape saturate, compress & eq.

Layering with sub-kick, sometimes distortion (Cubase Quadrafuzz) or other distortion stuff, Waves RBass, LA2A... Not much EQ because I only use samples and all of this are pre-processed and ready for use. I invest more time to find the best samples so I don't need too much FX.

on the kick channel itself I have a channel strip, which has a gate, comp, and eqGiusmex wrote:now id like to know form you which chain of effect ( ine lectronic music) do you apply to your kick drum track
and then all the drums are routed through a bus, which has a compressor, eq, and clipper.

All the kicks I hear on Sean Tyas and Buuren podcasts are really extended on the bottom end and I get used to that type of kick. By comparison the raw samples I have don't have that beefy bottom end and aren't as phat. I've found compression helps to make the bottom end of the kick more extended but you need to EQ it afterwards. Mebbe I just need to get better kick samples, lol.

Two plugins that I frequently use on kick tracks are Camel Phat free and Rubytube.
Both are old...
Both are free...
Both have a low CPU hit...

They're both useful for more than just kicks too.

Yeah, I try to use samples that require minimal manipulation (Goldbaby). It's worth the investment to reduce EQing, compressing, bit crushing, so on time for me. I do add a some high pass EQ to the whole drum track/group though.Loki Fuego wrote:I rarely process my kick drum on its own given that the sample is high quality. What the use of that?

It's now (Since some years) named Camel Crusher and has a few new features though
And you are right! It works great on kicks (or drums in general)

You're right Dennis. And I use that too. But I just love that easy, simple, three-fader, instant kick satisfaction that I get from the old version.
