In the words of George Carlin: "I don't give credit for unfinished work."

But once all the bugs are weeded out (VST folders etc.), missing features have been implemented (Mac AU etc.), and once the point of stable and reliable functionality is reached, I guess I will be VERY thankful for this project.

Try finding an audio editor for Mac OSX that's both FREE and USEFUL, and that doesn't look like it's from the 80s...

Fair enough.

But I do give encouragement; without it some work might never get to the finished stage.

I'm a big fan of Carlin, BTW :D

lol made me think of Woody Allen's line about God and plumbers

If you're referring to Audacity then, erm, well...yes. I think it's a very useful application - as I said - but the interface isn't exactly "inviting"...

(...)

The cross-platform nature of this project is one of the most interesting aspects for me. I haven't tried it on OSX or Linux yet, but I will. Most of the time I live in Windowsland but I do occasionally need to go elsewhere, and to have free and effective tools that'll work over the border is very useful.

Very nice, I'm impressed - even if it didn't work after the first run.
But impressed. Very nice gui, I have to say.
Other than that, only feature it's missing that I would want would bve decent batch processing.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but is there any chance for a portable (non-install) version?

Yeah, that'd be nice.

Also, what is exactly the situation with VST plugins now? Does Ocenaudio still try to scan VST folders by default on start-up, causing crashes and other problems? I am still not going to rename folders or dll-files etc just to get the app to run for more than 2 seconds...

In Beta 12, the VST plugins are not loaded by default and new checks were added ensuring that the plugin can be loaded and won't crash ocenaudio.

Without vst folder it takes 57mb of ram here...with vst it's 350mb.
I assume that if you have more plugins this could consume all your ram and cause a crash.

Can this be improved please?
In the next release, the VST plugins will be loaded only when they are used.

Great, thank you

Do you know any RIFF metadata standard (like ID3)?
tommy_d wrote:2. Why would you want to change the language? Surely that's something you decide once, during installation?
For Mac and Linux, the default language is English. And what if you want to switch to another language (like Portuguese or French) in these OS?

tommy_d wrote:3. Pardon my ignorance, but what is "Meta" (as in "Zoom Out Full - Meta+Alt+Up")?
"Meta" on windows is the windows key. I guess it's OS dependent but the prompt is designed to cover all OS's the app might be run on.
Thanks Ozpeter :)
tommy_d wrote:...and a possible bug report:
- loop doesn't always work as I'd expect: sometimes it seems to take two presses of "Ctrl + L" to turn looping off(?) And sometimes having turned it off it gets re-instated(?)
Have you noticed if the loop indicator (in the bottom right of the central display) is on/off?

I hope noone misunderstood my post. I was not trying to put this program down, on the opposite, I'm all in favor of it.

As I already pointed out, other available editors either a) look like carp, b) have no advanced/useful set of features (plugins, display modes, selections, ...), c) are not available for OSX - or all three.

So this editor could finally become the "answer to my prairs" since I've moved to Mac.

But... how can I say this... "I'm not going to make it that, if its makers are not going to make it that" ... if you get what I mean.

If not, here's another formulation: keep up the good work, you're on to something great there!

Thanks, I can now run Ocenaudio and it seems nice! Suggestion : "musical" frequency scales for the spectrogram. The linear scale just wastes half of the spectrogram height on the highest octave of the frequency range, leaving the more interesting bits under and around 1000hz very little space vertically. (I noticed you can zoom into a frequency range, but that isn't the same as having a non-linear frequency scaling for the whole frequency range.)

In spectral view, the Mel Scale is available.
In View > Spectral Scale Format you may choose the vertical spectral scale.
Does it that helps you?

Yeah ok, sorry I only looked for the option to change the scaling in the preferences. But the mel scale option seems to restrict the shown frequency range to about 1000-4000hz, is that on purpose?

The Mel Scale is a perceptual scale (Wikipedia).
For the next release we will implement the log scale for spectral view.
