Anyone use Band in a Box?

I'm helping a friend set up a new home rig. She's a singer/songwriter who plays the piano. She's totally new to home recording.
She specified Band in a Box as she's used it at her colleague's house. She love's the quick way she can put together a song arrangement. However, she wants to use it with a more fuller featured DAW for recording and basic mixing (I'm thinking of getting her to try Studio One v2 or Sonar X1).
Anyway, how can she get audio or MIDI data from Band in a Box into another application? Is it re-wire compatible or MIDI files be exported?
Thanks

I'm a biab die hard been using it since 2003
BIAB does have audio recording capabilities but it's not really designed for that. If her build of biab is current then she should have REAL Band too. If she has a current build of band in a box.
Wha she would do is first save her composition in biab.
Then open the .mgu in Real Band where she can add vocals apply effects and use vsti's/vst's for here biab/midi tracks.

Ah, so basically she wouldn't need any other DAW software for basic arrangement and vocal recording. Can REAL Band save to stems for importing into another DAW?tapper mike wrote:I'm a biab die hard been using it since 2003

BIAB will drag/drop audio or midi into your DAW or Win explorer and export midi of audio.auricle wrote:Ah, so basically she wouldn't need any other DAW software for basic arrangement and vocal recording. One final question. Is BIAB available as a download purchase?
Sadly not for the initial purchase. They really didn't get into the security of the program and they package it with a lot of extras so they opt to distribute it in disc form only. That being said if you have an older version already (depending on how old) you can download the update.
I let my biab ownership slip and didn't update it for years. Then I had to pay the piper when 2010 came out by paying full price. I don't mind it's worth every penny.
Watch out for ebay sales. Never buy used. If you buy used and there is a bug there is no way to get it fixed or update your software. That being said when I did buy mine I bought it new on ebay rather then the pg music website. I bought it new from an authorized distributer.
Also the nicest music forum I have ever been on is the BIAB Yahoo user groups.

I used to use it since it first came out ,but in years it has become (in my opinion) overloaded with options and UI. since couple of months ago I'm using more often a great chord sequencer called 'Chord pad':

It's amazing, easy to use,has some nice demos etc...
well I'm using it mainly as a jamming accompaniment and its great for that purpose
