man, it looks and sounds exactly like it should....but it costs too much (the preset list, while big, certainly isn't huge, and with a limited-control ROMpler like this, preset content is entirely what you are paying for...) and the dongle is certainly awful.
it's like they got 85% of it right and then made some awful choices...

I've got a few dsf libraries as well as libraries from emu directly and it's all sampled although extremely well sampled content. While I do find that it is extremely versatile as a rompler it's no synth. DSF comes in various formats but if you don't already have/run EmulatorX/ Proteus X don't bother.breakmixer wrote:Cheers, I was wondering if they were the same sample/sound content but a different machine, or thinking their may be overlap, both libraries are too expensive anyway for me, that DSF E-Max Kontakt library features alot of classic old school samples though, they only ever do 30% off sales, if it were $50/£50 I would consider that one, this new Emulation II library seems rather Depeche Mode-ish to me soundwise from the demo's, not something I'd want but seems good if you are into new wave/synth pop styles. Nice UI for the Workstation too. $199 + VAT though?hatethatiloveyou wrote:different
X don't run on win7 you have to find a copy of 98 to run them. Proteus VX can run on Vista and Win7 however doesn't have the disk streaming feature which is required for most of the DSF library and many of Emu's library as well.
Nothing pissed me off more then buying MSO only to find out that all the sounds combinations would not work for me.
Me I've got to say for vintage 80's synth on a vst nothing compares to OPX Pro II faithful reproduction of classic synth tones from songs you know well are always just a preset away.

I bought Proteus Vintage X for Prtoteus VX on my last PC but when I got a W7 pc I didn't want to/couldn't? use it anymore(Proteus VX), DSF had then just released the Kontakt version, I sent them an email and they sent me the Vintage X for Kontakt instead, DSF are very good to deal with...tapper mike wrote:I've got a few dsf libraries as well as libraries from emu directly and it's all sampled although extremely well sampled content. When installing on Win7 with Proteus VX you have to right click run as administrator for the install and when you want to use it.
The pay Proteus X or Emulator X won't work no matter what you do.

Seems alot of hastle, the software was too clunky anyway.tapper mike wrote:When installing on Win7 with Proteus VX you have to right click run as administrator for the install and when you want to use it.
I found that out as I bought the Proteus X also, when I bought my Plugiator I gave this free as a bonus(with some sample content discs) to the KVR seller as he let me have Plugiator dirt cheap(£100).tapper mike wrote:The pay Proteus X or Emulator X won't work no matter what you do.

I don't know I never find it great hassle to use the right mouse button and select run as administrator. The whole right click run as administrator thing is due to the "enhanced security features" of Vista and Windows 7
Depending on how the installer was created it's either a big hassle or impossible for developers to simply release a fix. There is no magic fairy dust that cures it.
When microsoft released the security update "feature" I and my company (not emu/dsf/creative labs or any music company) Were pulling our hair out trying to fix a problem that ms created in the name of better security. It was hell for our customers, hell for me as I had to handle the complaints and hell on our developers trying to create a fix. But we did. We didn't create the problem MS did. And guess what. I'm still sorting out issues with people who have not updated to the most recent build of our products. We did the best we could with our product to fix a situation we didn't create.
Now I don't work for emu/creative labs and for all I know they may fit in the catagory of impossible to fix or in the catagory of not impossible just lots and lots of manhours which they may not be able to recoup by sales.

yeah I wish it was $99...or even $120/30...but $199 is too rich for me...the Bitley Fairlight for Kontakt is way cheaper...to be fair - UVI stuff is top notch in terms of sound.
Can get similar sounds from the SQ8L do we think? IE retro bells, pads, choirs...

is there a cheaper library with such sounds? or maybe a patch pack for some Vsti? I love the sound but it's way too expensive for me

What problems did you experience with Emulator X? I have X3, and it is running in Windows 7. There seems to be a problem when just trying multiple instances as a plug-in, but one instance can run multiple sounds anyway.tapper mike wrote:When installing on Win7 with Proteus VX you have to right click run as administrator for the install and when you want to use it.

easier still - just disable UAC, then (as long as your account is an administrator level account) apps run just like they did back on xp .tapper mike wrote:I don't know I never find it great hassle to use the right mouse button and select run as administrator. the 'benefit' of UAC is extremely debatable (since it generally only catches older malicious software, all new malicious stuff is savy to UAC now) - I turned it off day one on my win7 pc, life's too short to have to remember to right-click/run-as-administrator everything
