List your top 10 ios apps with a short reason why.
These are my top 10 apps currently.

1. SUNRIZER / XS, this synth sounds fantastic and you can run XS on ipad for 2 synths.
2. IELECTRIBE, Always start with these beats sounds amazing.
3. METEOR, midi and audio multitrack with nice fx and usable editors.
4. ANIMOOG, Visible sound design adds something different to mix.
5. STEPPOLYARP, You wont find a hardware arp this good for this price.
6. DM-1, I like the fact you can select multiple kit sounds for any pattern.
7. MULTITRACK DAW, Multiple record input and output for fx loop.
8. NANOSTUDIO, The first app that made me go WOW this is good!!.
9. GENOME, Excellent for making ideas with background synths.
10. RHYTHM STUDIO, Its basic but it does all those retro tr sounds.

Post

1. JamUp Pro: provides me with the best amp and effect sims for guitar that I've found yet.
2.garageband mobile: makes for quick and easy backing tracks
3. Nanostudio: for killer drum tracks
4. Music studio: for converting midi tracks to .wav
5. EZ Composer: create nice backing tracks
6. Multitrack DAW: awesome mixing and mastering
7. Polytune: quick easy tuning
8. That's all I use!!!!
Rock On!

Post

I don't have 10 music apps but here are the ones I use:

1) Nanostudio - the best. Period.
2) Thumbjam - the best "instrument". Period
3) Beatmaker 2.0 - it's ok but lags far behind Nanostudio in usability. Has some unique features though

4) Jasuto Pro - a bit convoluted but very powerful modular synthese.. though it sounds a bit crappy imho

Other stuff:

5) TC Polytune - awesome tuner for guitars
6) Metronome Plus - best metronome in the appstore

Cheers!

how does the automation in iElectribe work? read that you can adjust settings live for later playback, but not really sure what that means. i really wish there were more apps that could do automation; I don't want to automate 48 tracks of audio, but it would be nice to do a little something. :)

my faves coming later (after the kids go to sleep).

In no particular order:

1. Pocket Synth - quirky synth with surprising depth and a theremin screen option. Rich sound, crunchy filter. No longer available at the app store. Damn shame...good thing it works perfectly with iOS5.

2. Animoog

3. Addictive Micro - a little Waldorf microwave with randomization. Way crunchy.

4. Bitboxland - the Hello Kitty of iOS synths. Just charming & fun as poo.

5. Random Drawing Generator - yes, it's a music app as well. Musique concrete...extremely random.

6. RJDJ -interactivity and endless involvement. Easy to get carried away with this.

7. ProLoop - there are others like it in the app store, but none have FM/RM/PM between loops meant for maximum sound fuckage. Hasn't been updated in a while. Again, works perfectly with iOS5.

8. Mixtikl - most improved app ever. The addition of the interactive touch music/art kind of incorporated Bloom like groove. Sickeningly deep edit ability too.

9. Alchemy - just because it sounds so rich and you can lose yourself in its controls...plenty deep enough for mobile purposes.

10. Keppler's Orrery - another oddball...gravity based and engaging

*** and a special FOCK YOU to Ilya Plavunov/Amidio for not updating Noise.io, which easily would have made my top ten. He's a flake and a liar. Up thine, borscht boy.

1) Nanostudio. Even as I'm mainly a guitar player (heck, imagine my #1 feature request...), this is good for endless hours of fun.
2) iRealb. Yes, I like some practising, and this is the perfect companion.
3) Polytune. Just a great tool to have.
4) Flash Metronome. Dito.
5) Amplitube. Perhaps there's better things but on my 3GS using an AmpLink adapter this is the only one giving me a decent latency.
6) TouchOSC. Well, I just started getting a little into it, but I quite like it.

Honorable mentions but defenitely not in the rankings:
- Garageband. For some of the ideas (the "smart" instruments are really nice sometimes). Otherwise as long as it's got zero editing, it's more like a toy.
- BeatMaker 2. Quite interesting but unfortunately a rather fiddly interface. The developer should steal from NanoStudio.
- Musicstudio. Could be great but arranging and editing is really clumsy, too.
- iMaschine. Well, ok when you have the full deal at home. Otherwise too limited.

Bascially, Nanostudio, Beatmaker and Musicstudio should team up and steal a little from Garageband. That'd be the perfect iSequencer.

I don't use any others ATM.

Dishonorable mentions:
- Energy XT. Well, after following the debacle with version 2 right here at KVR, I should ask myself why I even bothered buying this. And yes: Why did I? It sucks. The worst iSequencer IMO. Don't buy! The developer should really try to get his act together.

Well I do have some apps. Here they're listed in no particular order:

Djay
Awesome DJ app that is really good as well.

Garageband mobile
Simplier tool to compose on the go doesn't exist for me.

iElectribe
Awesome drum synth.

Rebirth
Nothing beats them 303's with a 808 and a 909.

iSequencer
Powerful and a lot of cool sounds

Reactable
Convoluted, although pretty straight forward to use.

Hokusai audio editor
Pretty mint tool to record and edit sounds in.

iMashine
Great drums + samples to start making hiphop beats with.

Fairlight
Nothing beats some old nostalgic sounds.

Waveshaper
Musique Concrete on the Ipad.

A few that should be mentioned as well:

Tabletop
Pretty convoluted, fiddly interface and it requires one to buy synths to use them in your own songs. Even though you've bought table top before! :x

FL Studio
The step sequencer really needs to be improved, and I do really mean that since it is really hard to get up any decent work speed as it is now.

Beatwave
I like the thought, but it really needs more sounds to choose from.

Lemme see... In no particular order

Korg iMS-20 -- great sound, logical layout and hopw could one resist a nearly real MS-20+SQ-10 pair for $33? ) Rotary knobs are a bit unpractical, but hey, it's an emulation of hardware!

NanoStudio -- the best. Period. If you want to make music on an iPad but don't want to fiddle with all those esoteric apps out there, just get this. The only inconvenience I can think of is the presets management in Eden synth (why no dropdown menus?)

iSequence -- somehow it's not quite popular around these parts, but it's a great sample/loop sequencer -- or, technically, an 8-channel tracker, with all pros and contras known for that type of software. Very easy to use.

Multitrack DAW -- mixing, recording voice, even some mastering.

TwistedWave -- good audioeditor, comparable with better PC/Mac freeware (think Wavosaur). However, not freeware itself.

iElectribe --a bit overpriced, but great software drum machine

DM1 -- after the last update, adding audiocopy and some more features, arguably the best sample-based (64 kits iirc) software drum machine for iPad

Fairlight -- well, frankly, only recommended if you wanna spend $50 on something nice but rather useful (strictly imho). I love this app, it's beautifully made and fun/pita (choose your option) to play with, but without any means to export audio, somewhat useless. Might be a good addition to a live setup though.

Rebirth -- well, nothing beats Rebirth for techno-ish stuff! OK, Technobox has a better sound but lacks in usability (interface with those sliding panels, export to iTunes only, no automation etc)

Animoog/NLog synth -- two standalonr synths I use the most to record some lines, usually driven by...

Phaedra -- a bit undercooked yet, but I like the old school interface.

Here goes, in no particular order

1. Korg iMS-20 - the best ipad synth
2. Addictive Synth - easy to program, and some crazy sounds
3. Sunrizer - Very well designed UI, very logically laid out
4. Multitrack DAW - nice and easy recording and editing
5. Rebirth for Ipad - good re-creation of a classic
6. DM-1 - pretty UI, and decent sounds
7. Garageband - no-brainer at the price
8. Beatmaker - comprehensive solution, but maybe I should try Nanostudio too
9. Alchemy mobile - its free!!
10. Xenon - poor man's nanostudio

Dishonorable mention goes to iSequence HD cause giku has been saying its coming for a while now.

Post

1. Lemur - What the iPad was made for ;-)
2. Animoog - I love the interface & it sounds fantastic
3. DM1 - For me the best drum machine on the iPad
4. Addictive Synth - Sounds great, intuitive & powerful
5. Genome MIDI - As a Reason user (with no MIDI-out) this is invaluable
6. Grain Science - Very powerful, loads of features & sonic madness!
7. iDensity - Granular insanity that I can lose hours in!
8. Sunrizer - Extremely powerful synth, won't be out of many top 10's ;-)
9. Pheadra - (see reason for 5. Genome)
10. Filtatron - Like a Moogerfooger for iOS. Fantastic.

Plenty of other noteworthy music Apps but I think these are the ones I get the most use out of. Could also have included Korg iMS20 (but I don't actually use it much at all), iElectribe (same thing!), Alchemy Mobile (not the most practical but TONS of fun to play with), Beat Slicer (very simple but cool little App) etc, etc. And let's not forget all those fantastic music tuition Apps. We're really spoilt for choice with iOS music Apps these days :D Good times indeed. So much good stuff out there. I LOVE IT!!!

EDIT: I keep thinking of loads more Apps I could have included!! Maybe I should have done a top 20!! Android users, give it up! Get an iOS device for music Apps  Sorry, but it's painfully true :help: I've been consumed by iPad & I don't even like Apple (iPad is my first ever Apple purchase).

They did, big time and still got it wrong.

Post

I have about 90 music apps, so this task was really hard, but here it is, mainly based on usage:

1. Beatmaker 2
2. NanoStudio
3. Table Top
4. iVoxel
5. VOX 3000
6. Rebirth
7. iMS-20
8. iSequence
9. Nlog Pro
10. StudioTrack (used for mastering)

Post

I don't think I have 10 music apps between my iPad and iPod, so I'll list what I have by how much they get used.

1. TouchAble
2. TouchOSC
3. Polytune
4. Animoog
5. Filtertron
6. Jasuto Pro
7. iMS20
8. iElectribe

Post

Damn! I forgot the "short reason why" :dog: I'll try again:

1. Beatmaker 2: Main DAW due to Virtual Midi, Background audio and unlimited tracks and decent effects.

2. NanoStudio: The All-in-one studio for fast music making, when I don't want to use Virtual Midi synths nor copy and paste too much.

3. Table Top: Love it as a performance tool. Love the "table" concept and the options to route the modules just the way I want.

4. iVoxel: love the sound of Vocoders, robot singing, noisy speech etc.

5. VOX 3000: A very fine text-to-speech generator for more robot fun.

6. Rebirth: A must-have for basic techno styles. Simple as that.

7. iMS-20: A man must have a least one modular synth and Korg's has virtual cables and sounds very decent.

8. iSequence: Great samplebased sequensere. I particulary love the drum sounds.

9. Nlog Pro: For some reason this is my most used standalone synth though I also have Animoog, Sunrizer, Synth X, Alchemy, Artic keys etc. The three osc and some decent mod options just fit my needs.

10. StudioTrack. Used for mastering: Eq, compression and master reverb.

Well...that it, I think.

Cheers

I already went over 10 items limit, but I think this one is worth noticing:
Voix Vocoder.
It's no iVoxel, but for $0.99 it's a steal, some pretty cheap sounding vocoding, yet quite pleasant to my ear
