I'm wondering what version of Melodyne is comparable to what is included in Studio One. CAn anyone clarify that? Thanks!
Edit: duh really I should get used to searching myself, it is the Essential version, which is $80. But my understanding is it is more integrated than most other DAWs?

Well Presonus' site says it is the Essential version, but it may be more integrated overall. The demo works as a plugin in Reaper, when you buy Studio One, will that license for Melodyne work in Reaper too? It basically adds a lot to the value of the purchase even if I end up working a lot in Reaper.hibidy wrote:by far. ARA is currently a studio one exclusive afaik.
But I think the 80 buck version is limited? I don't really know. I have "editor".

I have to admit I like Reaper's piano roll much better than Studio One, except for the groove functionality. But now that Reaper is properly set up it is not bad, the only thing is I have to manually place notes, they don't just snap into the grid like Studio One. But S1 is a little fiddly too (though probably my inexperience in how to set it up and work efficiently). I'm a little on the fence but if I know that Melodyne also will be functional in Reaper it makes taking the 'risk' of buying a lot less risky and more of a good investment. I'm just a little nervous that I will end up not using Studio One as much as I'd like while I wait for some features to mature, or plugins to get fixed like my beloved arp.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Maybe I'm not following but reaper has snap.braj wrote:Ithe only thing is I have to manually place notes, they don't just snap into the grid like Studio One.
The grid and quantize could be set to different settings.

For one, you don't have to let Melodyne "hear" your audio by playing it in real time. Instead, it is already aware of the audio in Studio One and just takes a couple of seconds to analyze the track.
Also, when you make changes to a clip, it will be reflected in Melodyne(such as splitting a clip and adding silence, it will be reflected in Melodyne as well).
Then, the Melodyne interface is actually integrated into the Studio One so it's not like a plugin, but works just like the MIDI editor.
You can do things like analyze an audio clip, then instantly alt-drag that clip to another track which will put a MIDI file of the analyzed audio on the destination track. Instant audio to MIDI!
Or maybe you want to drag the analyzed clip, complete with your Melodyne edits, into the groove quantize panel to use as a groove template? Again, just a single click and drag.
And that's just some of the cool things. Melodyne essentially becomes part of Studio One, not just a plugin. It is always aware of the audio file, and it's just drop dead easy.

It doesn't snap to the groove template, in Reaper I can display the groove markers but the grid doesn't follow it, you have to manually place them. Of course the standard grid works, but the one huge thing I like about Studio One is that groove system, it is very slick.hibidy wrote:This doesn't make any sense to me. I can't say for sure. Since I already owned Melodyne Editor(the full version with the polyphonic editing), I haven't installed the Essential version that I got with S1.braj wrote:
Very coolbut can you confirm if Melodyne as included in Studio One allows a VST plugin to be used in reaper? I'm kinds doubting that but it would be extremely cool if that were the case. I tried it in Reaper and ity isn't too bad, definitely not as cool as full integration but having the plugin also available there would be a huge 'value add'.

I say kludgy but it is a huge help really, and the fact that it exists at all is great. And there are plenty of things Reaper has that S1 doesn't regarding the midi editor, big ones for me are hiding unused/unnamed notes (like the 'fold' function in Live which I loved) and coloring notes by pitch, which helps visually orient me in the timeline, especially when hiding unneeded notes. I really wish there were part of Studio One.

Oh yeah, groove tool
Flapping thing doesn't even work here

yeah, now I know what you mean. I don't use it. Why? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T WORK!
I never had issues with crashing till I discovered that horrible THING!
Bitter, me? Nah......you're imagining things.

I looked for a solution to 'record' rewired tracks into S1 but couldn't find one, does anyone use S1 and rewire, how do you make it 'work'? I can get audio in but not have it be independently 'recorded' so I can discard the rewire slave after I'm done with the session. I don't like trying to manage a project across two DAWs, I'd rather use rewire as a session tool and then forget it exists
