I use vroom for my verb of choice mostly.
Honorable mention to the "german" head in AT cs, but the jet city is too noisy at high gain so I'm not super kewl with that (sound pretty nice though)

I've never used it as a "high gain" situation, but for overdrive, that thing rocks. Gain right below the three mark, Bass and Middle at five, Treble a smidge over eight, Volume and Presence at nine. Sounds like an overdriven amp should sound. Or a clean amp with a TS in front of it.

My high gain setup is this :
2 pairs of 2 Tracks
1st pair for really scooped sound
TSE 808 -> Poulin Le 456 -> MMultiBandConvolution split at about 120 Hz, Recabinet Ghandi impulses. Low D6, High 121
2nd pair to give it some body
TSE 808 -> Amplitube 3 : Metal Lead V model -> Recabinet 3 : Ogre - 121 and Eagle 421
Clean, Amplitube 3 : British Blue Tube or Revalver 3 : Peavey Classic 30

Like a previous poster mentioned, I like the Amplitube amps but I dont like the cabs and mics. Recabinet always sounds better.
to be honest though, amp sims these days are all sounding decent. At least its now more about what sound you want to create rather than them sounding shit in general.

I use the Blackface Deluxe model out of PODFarm in conjunction with any of four different cabinet models for about 75% of my current sounds. Everything I do is in the clean to slightly crunchy category. I know there's not a lot of love for PODFarm around here but I find it very easy to dial in the tones I'm going for with it.

i use the hot plexi and cool plexi in guitar rig for pretty much everything, since I used to own a real marshall plexi and that sort of extremely loud clean/yet crunch guitar sound is what I like to use
so I can be louder than the other guitar player in the band, thats why I originally got the plexi. i had a 50 watt ampeg, the 2x12 reverberocket reissue... beautiful amp, but, not loud. not nearly as loud as a 2x12 50 watt tube amp should be... had it checked out by my tech and those amps deliver very low voltage to the plate... really only equivelant to about a 20 watt amp. he goosed it up as much as it would go, but it just had very little headroom. I suppose they were going for the "vintage" sound (ie. early breakup)...
I had swapped out the speakers several times, first to vintage 30's which were not a good match for the open back cab and the voicing of the amp in general, so I switched those again for some reissue greenbacks, and those improved the sound of the amp considerably over both the vintage 30's and the stock jensen's. but still, the amp was lacking in balls. and since I am mostly influenced by Jimmy Page, even the fact that I had another guitar play in the band, was rubbing me the wrong way, there was no way in hell i was going to let him be louder than me, with his 1x12 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40-watt, which absolutely smoked the ampeg 2x12 50-watter in the volume department. fender tube amps are fcking LOUD.
so in my quest for more volume, i was introduced by a mutual friend of the band to the guitar player of local noiserockers Detroit Wolf, who's guitar player had recently acquired a (very shitty) Soundcity 50 watter head, and was looking too offload his Marshall Plexi 100-watter, which was in great condition and was actually a much better amp than the Soundcity, but the Soundcity fit the bands color scheme better, so you know how that goes.
So I was able to actually sell my Ampeg to the mutual friend who introduced me to the Plexi guy, I sold him the Ampeg and was able to scrape up enough from my paychecks at the local guitar shop (Skip's music in Sacramento if anybody wants to know about a real guitar shop) and what happened after that was I met up with the guy, exchanged cash, acquired the amp, acquired a new 4x12 cab from Guitar Center on discount.
It was one of the Peavey Penta series, which is a green tolex'd psuedo vintage cab designed to match the Penta series head, which is like a Plexi-style amp made by peavey with a 5-voice selector knob. The cool thing about the cab is that it actually is loaded with Celestion G12T-75's, which are not great speakers but they are better than what Guitar Center thought they had, because Peavey puts their own speaker on the sticker.
But if you look at the edge of the speaker baffle you see Celestion G12T-75 printed on the side. But Guitar Center thought it was shit, and they didnt sell well so I was able to secure the $699 cab for $200 brand new.
So with my new plexi and my new cab, I couldn't wait to test out. No earplugs, I like to hear all the harmonics. It was loud, let me tell you, but something was missing. It didn't sound quite as good as the vintage models we had at Skips (you ever crank up into a '68 Plexi Marshall... and crank it up to 10 with a telecaster or a les paul... and try not to ruin your pants)
So after reading much online about the state of the reissues, I decided what I needed to do was replace the output transformer. so on recommendation of some people on the internet who i did not know, I went to mercury magenetics website and ordered a Dagnall style output transformer, which took the tone from good to great and I was settled.
But in the end the band ended up breaking up because of girlfriend of the drummer, ruined everything. And the plexi was just too much, so I sold it, I have a Peavey Classic 4x10 now, I really love that amp. 50-watt, EL84, it sounds really good. Not quite the plexi, but you know, its way more practical, and can get super loud, way too loud for any gig if need be.
I also have the little Peavey Classic 30 1x12 because I like the tone of the amps so much. And, they are self biasing, when power tubes go out you can replace them without having to rebias the amp. Perfect for gigging.

the original overloud stuff (can't remember the name at the moment), especially the fender one, for clean to crunch
i stopped guitar 4 years ago, but i really liked the amplitube mudhoney edition (i think they called it hendrix, but it was pretty much spot on mudhoney setups lol)

I have been pretty much smitten with TH2 since I bought that and my Line6, GuitarRig and freebies have been gathering digital dust ever since.
It certainly sounds the most musical to my ears, as well as being kind on the cpu. Just don't get me started on the gui and preset management though
