question was: Is ReFX Nexus2 worth getting?
my answer: yes it is if you can afford it. simple as that :)
+1

@OP

Just buy the ROMPLER and be done. There's no demo but the quality of the expansions i have heard are top notch espescially the latest one.

;-)

I decided earlier in this thread I was going to get it, lol. This thread has definitely gone further than I imagined - 140 replies!? At the moment it's expensive for most people to buy but I plan to get it when it comes down in price at Christmas (if thay have a xmas sale this year).

Thanks. :)
If you can afford it mate just get it, take no notice on here it's a certain bet that the original topic will go off in another direction, just take a look at the other threads here and you'll see.. Best just buy what you think suits you and use it mate. I for one will buy Nexus2 again soon but i have just spent nearly £1900 on a new Virus so Nexus2 will be next month now. I used to own it way back and always regretted selling it. If your into EDM then it's aimed at you although there are other expansion covering different Genres.. Best leave this thread now mate and go laugh at all the other SYNTH Vs SYNTH ones.. Now they really are the silly topics puh!

Enjoy Nexus2 and make some tracks eh :D

That's one way to go about it: don't think and just buy. You might like it. It probably sounds good for what it does.

The alternative is to spend some time (instead of money) and learn to program those sounds yourself. It's more gratifying, not hard (most trance-sounds can be programmed within minutes anyway) and saves you a lot of cash. The amount of money you'd spend on Nexus with all expansions also buys you an Alesis Andromeda (in Holland anyway, not sure about other countries)or a Virus TI for instance..

So is it worth it? Not for me.. but i think most of you figured that out already eh?

Isn't this the case with, well, everything? It's called "having a viable business model".
Yeah it's kind of like complaining that a lawn mower doesn't re-tile your bathroom.
Were you not paying attention to the thread? People were stating that Nexus was extremely versatile like tubes of paint. I don't consider versatility spending money on expansions to get presets that are specific to one's genre. So instead of tubes of primary colors you get a starter kit (factory presets) with a tubes of gradients that help paint all kinds of sunsets (trance/house).

People should buy it if they want to produce house/edm/trance and don't want to deal with making presets but I wouldn't recommend it for other genres unless they want to spend more money on expansions.

IMO Nexus or any synth, sampler etc ARE just like tubes of paint, not necessarily a full spectrum of musical colors in that one plugin but it is what you do with them that matters. In painting there are pastels, oils, crayons, pencils, etc, it is just another palette. I have no desire to get it, don't do dance music and it is not aimed at me, price it way too high anyhow, just I am defending the people who do find value in it since they are being slighted and mocked a bit here by some :shrug: and I really don't think that is fair. Instead of critiquing the plugin itself some turned to insulting those that found value in it, and I can't agree with that.

@OP

Did you buy it? If so good choice mate ;-)

Nexus is good
Omnisphere is better......

I think Nexus is decent for what it's designed to do. However, if Omnisphere had soundsources and presets that matched those of Nexus (which I'm sure it could if Eric Persing wanted to), Nexus would be left in the dust as far as EDM/Trance geared romplers go.

I recently used Nexus2 in a couple of racing game custom songs for a customer and it really paid off. That trance stuff is not the music I usually offer and I needed some high quality sounds very quickly out of the box without invensting any time in programming own presets etc. Nexus in combination with Sylenth1 was just great here.

I sincerely hope you DID NOT buy it. It's a great piece of software but what they don't tell you is that they aren't selling you software, they are selling you hardware (USB dongle) and if you lose it, you're SOL. I bought the software not knowing this and lost my USB dongle during a move. You cannot purchase a replacement, you cannot download your licences onto, say, an iLok, you cannot web activate. You literally have to spend $300 to use it again. Not to mention that all your expansion packs will be wasted money also. It's like having to buy a new house because you lost the keys. They are the worst music software company going.

I love Nexus2. sure, i've spent hundred's of dollars on the synth. and expansion packs,but it helped me break thru walls.. yeah, yeah, yeah call it somewhat cheating cuz the presets are already set for you, but it helped me explore and mix and made life easy when i hit the "writer's block" for the 1000th time, lol... although, i alternate between nexus2 and sylenth1. because sometimes i want to get my own unique sound - therefore i use sylenth1 and play around with that to get what i want. however, when i get lazy, or hit that shit brick wall, nexus is a godsend. i know peeps say less is more. idk, i find more is more lol. jmho.

oh, and yeah, u if u buy nexus they give u a usb thingy. DO NOT lose it.. i know it's kind of annoying. because if i don't have it with me, well, i cant use nexus. nonetheless, it's not that big of a drawback. just dont lose it!

An iLok is a USB dongle - if you lose it, you lose the licenses on it and therefore the right to use software it activates.

The fact that you are complaining that you can't "download" an eLicenser license to an iLok indicates you *still* aren't understanding how REFX, and every other company that uses a USB-based license system, works.

Love Nexus, just got it a couple years ago on sale at Christmas along with a bunch of expansions. It's easy to use, dependable and sounds great. Support is excellent.
