Give someone a dedicated controller with one of the top soft synths of today and not many people would enjoy it any less. imposcar controller for imposcar 2, or any of those synth lab controllers liket he poly-ana one, etc.

I still can't understand why we don't see more hybrids for cheap, like the Korg MS-20 Legacy controller. That thing was awesome. The synth was decent but not as good as some newer ones. Thing is, you don't even need the keyboard, just the panel. If they can make that for a couple hundred bucks, I don't see why others can't do something similar. Dedicated knobs and buttons brings back the fun missing from softies.

i hated softsynths even more than him for 10 years ...but as soon as the first beta of Diva was released i knew finally the filters had been nailed...or at least close enough not to matter much.

what the hell is a 0 delay feedback filter?

I would take the DX7. Cooler sounds, easier to take to a gig, easier to play.

Why do i always hate such sound examples ?
While i can hear all the nice analogness, i simply don't like the sound you choose and would actually prefer to hear sounds closer to what i like even without all these sweet analog characteristics.

Don't take it as an attack, our tastes are different and thats all.

Because i got a PM that it could be bad that i used an EQ with the Slim Phatty even if it was a reasonable amount.
You could still access the file from the other thread here at the forum (the one where Kriminal also complained about the use of the EQ...).

About the choose of sound: Besides showing the general sound of the Phatty this example was to show the use of filter modulation and also the sound of the resonance in the Phatty which IMO is very pleasing (i would call it "juicy" or "musical".
I have tested the demo of Corona and found that the Resonance in higher amounts gets just "ear-piecing" and uncomfortable. To be honest i was never really a fan of Corona (finally mentioned it...) but: different people, different tastes.

Besides your comment makes no sense to me as I'm simply replying to zerocrossing who has thrown the challenge of matching the original Slim Phatty file Ingo posted a while ago with a soft synth. That's what I've done.

That demo was posted around November last year, during the beginning of the public beta of Diva AFAIK.

I'll say first software second hardware, but I'll also freely admit that this was pretty hard to hear a difference at all on my work headphones. The other example I found was a lot easier to spot. Maybe because it went lower in pitch which is where I feel hardware shines? Both examples actually sounded a bit harsh in the resonance range. Also, these examples, for good or for bad, don't usethe overloaded filter sound the Phatty's known for. Would Diva fare as well? I don't think Diva even has that feature so it's not a fair comparison.

Again, I own Diva and it's great. There is a lot of overlap between hardware and software which is awesome, and it's getting better all the time. It's why I've spent a lot more money on software than I have on hardware synths. I'm not like Mr. Slim, I was just defending his position. I'm still not convinced that once you leave software's "sweet spot" it would do as well against hardware. Usually that would be high resonance sounds, but Diva's one of the first synths that really has a sweet sounding resonance.
