This seems to solve the problem with being forced to use C# for development on the current platform. MS is touting this benefit for better games, but I'd assume it would also apply for low latency audio as well.

Looks good. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Yes, this news, combined with the positive impressions of the newly announced Surface tablet means Microsoft might be back in the running. I've downloaded the C++ tools and Win8 preview. I can't wait to try it. :)

To cite a ms engineer in a german magazine:

"With this step we hope to get latencies below 100 ms to provide a latency free audio experience to the end user"

Sounds like Microsoft's ignorance is even worse than Google's.

Microsoft and realtime audio?? That's (almost) funny - mostly sad because: ain't gonna happen with windows using directsound. Expect latencies beyond 100ms.
Cowbells!

maybe he added a zero too much ?
10ms instead of 100ms ?

100ms is not latency free at all, it's in fact unusable for realtime audio.

It's certainly true that just because it will now use native coding doesn't mean it'll have low latency audio. I'm just engaging in wishful thinking.
