The only one I haven't liked is the SWS one. Reason? Every time I go to learn a bit more, I discover shit that don't work right
(not really ever been a problem before, but I'm not on mac)

Did you read the SWS manual "REAPER Plus! The Power of SWS Extensions"?hibidy wrote:The only one I haven't liked is the SWS one. Reason? Every time I go to learn a bit more, I discover shit that don't work right(not really ever been a problem before, but I'm not on mac)
Although it's an older one, it explains some features very evidently...

Thank you. I will.h2ogun99 wrote:I loved it. Worth the money. Please keep us posted on your thoughts. I'm all midi, so I have less demands from a DAW but Reaper seems to be notorious for audio, so maybe is not my best bet.
We'll see.

There're little bits of gold within the basic overview that you (like me) would be inclined to skip. I decided to stick with it and was glad I did. Even when the video was 30sec from being finished I would think that within that time he might throw something out useful. I do wish that you could speed up - 2x - the video like you can with Lynda tuts. My wife laughs at me when I'm in be listening to tuts. It sounds like chipmunks, but I get done twice as fast. haha I'm a tutorial addict.

I love tutorials as well. It's such a shortcut to the top.
At least my wife is also happy: I got rid of all the hardware long ago! Now just a laptop and a great pair of cans (thanks to hibidy

Thanks for another post and this one for pointing JesusSonic out.bmrzycki wrote:One of my favorite features of Reaper is the JesusSonic (JS) scripting language. You can make midi effects and audio effects with it in only a few lines of code. I've written tons of small one-off effects for a particular need, things in other DAWs that would require me to make VSTs or find tools like piz Midi's effects.
It's about as difficult as JavaScript and if you're any kind of programmer you should be able to pick it up in a few days.
JS + routing are the #1 and #2 reasons I use Reaper over all other DAWs.
Me personally, i'm more interested in playing with the MIDI data. If I want to do anything with audio effects, I just do automation with Logic to the particular knob in the loaded AU Instrument or AU Effect to achieve what JesusSonic is doing. No need to write an AU Instrument/Effect or purchase one and you can still stay with Logic.
I love coding but the problem is, you need to write it in a way that you don't keep going back to the code to make your personal adjustments.
Now even though I said no need to purchase one, for those that can afford it I would look at plz Midi, Numerology 3 or any other AU Instrument that works with MIDI data, not audio.
I have Numerology 3 and it's now a AU Instrument and here's something that I did to get do automation to another AU Instrument using Numerology 3 and The Enviroment in Logic.

I did the above video link in response to this thread over at Numerology
http://five12.net/showthread.php?t=1759
To me, this is like "auto-pilot" on automation yet I can still tell the "auto-pilot" what to do. I make any adjustments with Numerology 3 and it affects the sound with the loaded AU Instrument that I attached it to but now instead on my hand making it stay in sync, Numerology 3 is doing that. Since it's MIDI data driving that, you can record that MIDI data to a track for further editing in Logic as well.

My reason for using reaper as my main daw is that it does what I need it to and is very efficient. It's a long story, but I finally just gave up on all the other. My griping is based on what I believe it can be more than anything else. I deal with the limitations, not going to stop bitching about them though

But you use it despite the supposed limitations...hibidy wrote:My reason for using reaper as my main daw is that it does what I need it to and is very efficient.
