Getting to spend some time with Studio One V2.5.1 today and it managed to freeze-crash on me and seemingly lose an afternoons-worth of work. I had auto-save set and the song folder has a single file with an "autosave" extension, but Studio One won't see it, or open it. Can I do something like change the extension of the file and load it up, or am I scwewed?

Not a good start for S1

I had S1 crash whan I had done an hours worth of work on a new project without saving it. S1 couldn't recover because the original project had never been saved. I was able to go into the autosave folder and open the files directly and then save them as a new project. I hope you are able to recover your work.

Not sure what platform you're on, but Studio 1 crashes a lot in Mountain Lion. What is a lot? At least a few times every day for me. Could be the plug-ins, could be studio one, who knows. Save like your work depends on it. It is still my primary DAW, but only because Protools doesn't do VST.

I'm using the 64bit version in Windows 7/64. I was just working on a demo using EZDrummer and EZKeys. I was flipping through chords in EZkeys and everything just stopped. I tried to wait it out, but I ended up having to end task the whole thing.

Rename the autosave file to *.song and open it.

Thanks, Lawrence; that did it.

I KNEW there was a way to do it. Lawrence FTW!

Now, the big question: Is there a simple way to transfer a midi/vsti project over from Cubase?

It depends on how you define "simple".

If it's all midi just export a midi file. If it's midi and audio export a Steinberg *.xml track archive which it will open directly. In any case with any song transfer between different products you'll have to manually load and assign the same instruments to the midi tracks in the other workstation.

I guess simple would be: able to import a Cubase project file. :) too much to ask, I know. I can live with exporting MIDI and XML.

Thanks again.

VST 2.3, yes: http://www.fxpansion.com/index.php?page=15

Ok, then protools does not NATIVELY w/o a wrapper do vst, is that fair?

Also, I seriously doubt that fxpansion is going to update that wrapper to be x64. If I'm wrong, lovely!

Comment: Hoping you guys have the cycles to make a VST to AAX converter. VST to RTAS has been a real asset to me.

Reply: Technically possible, legally doubtful. It's public knowledge that Sugar Bytes got served with a cease-and-desist when they tried to release one last year.

Hmmm. I use 64 bit studio one on a win7 x64 machine and it's really solid (my usage pattern is pretty much all day every day, not just a few minutes here and there).
Do you see crashes with anything but EZkeys? I've never heard of ezdrummer causing s1 to flake out, and i use superior2 frequently without issue. You may want to check with TT to see if there are any known issues, it being a relatively new-ish product and all.

bummer about the x64 vst wrapper. when i had pt, i relied on the wrapper for a few old favorites.
