I had almost lost heart that I would ever here anything more from The BoC. I will probably love this album even if It is one note held down and run through their famous tape machine. Lol... The teaser seems ominous and perfect. Very Excited!
Who is "I"? What is "I"? This has yet to be explained.

That might be really cool. Lol... They were definitely an acquired taste for me. Didn't get it at all at first, but then there were a few songs that just gave me the purest experience of "nostalgia" that I could imagine. Those few songs I think became the groundwork that lead me to see more of their work in a different light.
Most of my friends feel the way you do.

Well it depends on personnal attempts...to me this music is made for a more contemplative and instrospective vibe, like "LUX" from Brian Eno. Some music are note meant to be very catchy or particularly demonstrative. I can understand that this can sound boring or just vintage synths played through old vhs but to me it's so much more than this. There's a particular sound in their work and a really great attention aimed at the details and atmosphere...Like always, music is very very subjective...damoog wrote:no matter how cool it is to like boards of canada i just cant get into them...even for a morning listen to work that track is amazingly boring for me,i might as well play a long pad and record some radio transmission in ableton and transfer the final audio to my iphone!

while I can understand how some find them boring; I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. maybe it's a personality thing, but their music really speaks to me. thanks for the heads up.

They are extremely talented but their music is always extremely predictable. It's easy to predict where a progression is going so it gets kind of boring. Artists like Plaid are far more unpredictable.

I'm really surprised by this news as I thought they weren't going to release anything new! I'm excited too!!! I hope there'll be tracks as good as Music is Math and 1969 (which are among my favorite tracks of all time!!)!

there are different ways to look at that. i think plaid can be quite predictable as well. once you've listen to their music you kinda know what to expect. sure.. they are quite good at what they do and throwing some nice left turns in there and some killer melodic "oh, where'd that come from" but they aren't re-inventing the wheel every time they make a new record... neither is boards of canada. they're just doing their thing.masterhiggins wrote:They are extremely talented but their music is always extremely predictable. i think, w/boards of canada, many times the listener might think "i hope this song does this" and then it does indeed do that.. but not always. the beauty of boards of canada for me is is the groove, the mix, the layering and how they can be very very simple and minimal and still sound full and express the idea completely.. just my experience of course..
i think throwing the word 'predictable' around is not always fair. i mean.. there is some kind of a boards of canada formula but then again .. there really isn't a boards of canada formula. maybe that makes no sense but i have a hard time writing about music.
i'm always glad for a new BoC record.. didn't care much for the last one.. the grainy shoe gaze guitar drone isn't my thing.. but i know people love it... just doesn't get me going. i think this new record could be even more stripped down and bare but that could just be where my head is at.
