From what i've seen, the Rocket seems pretty awesome. So many options with so few knobs and it all seems intuitive. Someone really thought hard making that one.

So.... Now when thread has resolved somewhat, let me hijack.

Im considering getting hardware. About ten years ago i sold everything i had.. mixers, synths, drummachines. Now i really want to start with hardware again. Summer is coming and with it the thunder. Thunder + Composing = Good. Computer + Thunder = Bad. Thus -> Computer + Composing = Bad!!!! Right..? :)

I need to be able to sequence and create songs so my options are:

Machinedrum - Im leaning towards this one .. but then again i lean towards this one also ->
Analog Four - With this as only device, sound per step will help but will it be enough?
Possibly Octatrack.. but i would have to do a lot resampling and im not even sure i want to be sampling when using hardware, not as main sound generator at least.
Genre is Techno.
I've been watching videos of elektron devices for a few days and i still drool when i see them

Machinedrum could be combined with the Rocket and Analog Four with Electribe ESX SD for instance. Any thoughts of the ESX? I used to have an EM-1 (gave it away!! but it was to a friend :))

That one's collection only, so no good if you're not in london. They come up for sale pretty often though, usually at silly prices considering what you get.

I have one and won't be selling it any time soon, highly underrated IMHO.

If you want to learn synthesis and like analogue sound I'd probably go with a Nord lead 2x. Its not an analogue but it sounds like one and to be honest if you've never owned an analogue then the difference in sound won't really bother you. I'd recommend keeping it as simple as possible for starters. An SH-101 would be a brilliant starting point if you don't mind using a mono synth or if you want polyphony a Juno 106 or 60. They are getting expensive though now. Best analogue poly for what you pay I can think of is the Prophet 08. You could pick a module up for about £750 or its equivalent and trigger it from a keyboard controller if you have one. Also the SH-201 is an excellent starting point but again that's a virtual analogue but you can pick them up for £200. I learnt on an Alesis ion, Huge mistake! watch as many videos as you can and read books and the manuals. Welshes synthesizer cookbook is a good one. If I was you I'd go for the SH-201 or Nord Lead 2x- both analogue modelling synths and once you've found your way around them and can make some decent sounds then get an analogue. Keep it as simple as possible and look for something with a dedicated knob for most functions. I wouldn't get anything much more than a 2 oscillator 2 envelope 1 multi mode filter 2 lfo synth if you can. It'll just confuse you at first

Get one first, and see if you like the flow. I tried the Machinedrum, it sounded good, but I HATED the work flow. It took too long to do live tweaks. Getting the parameters etc.

The Analog Four, I believe, is Four monosynths, so you won't have Pads/polyphonic sequences. I'm still interested in getting this.
