Fantastic synth! Purchased straight away because I really want to see where this gem goes.
On the latest version (0.9.10), I'm having trouble getting an envelope or LFO to detune OSC 2. I can modulate lots of other things, just not detune/fine.
Best regards,
Gino

Haven't had any problems with modulating the detune on OSC2 via the envelopes.Gino Cortesi wrote:

I can't see any assignment for the fine tune though.
There's a few assignments missing from Spire.

Cool demo
The original tune sounds like something made in an Amiga Soundtracker. (not a bad thing at all) but I guess Amiga's weren't even invented in 1980.
Good to see you still got time to enjoy your own Synth and make some tunes and stuff.

That's odd, doesn't work at all for me.aquar wrote:Haven't had any problems with modulating the detune on OSC2 via the envelopes.Gino Cortesi wrote:

Steps from Init...
1> Map LFO1 to Osc1_Detune
2> Set amt all the way up
3> Play a note
If it worked, you should hear the note go between +/-50 cents
Best regards,
Gino

The detune parameter handles the unison properties of the Spire Synth and doesn't have much to do with the Oscillator pitch
As I said above the Oscillator fine pitch assignment seems to be missing from Spire
I suppose or hope that at some point it'll be added.?
In the meanwhile fine pitch control could be handled via automation.?

Thanks aquar!
I see what you're saying. I use other plug-ins that use detune as fine pitch, and that was confusing me.

Gino

Spire's the first soft synth I purchased without trying it before (after listening to the demos and reading the comments here). I didn't regret it.
Spire can sound very rich and warm, very musical (comparable to DIVA, Zebra2, ImpOSCar2 and Sylenth1 to my ears). It's great fun to play!
2 wishes/suggestions to make it even better:
- an arpeggiator (it's on its way as I've understood)
- 1000+ factory presets
I've made a short ambience piece featuring two instances of Spire (factory preset "PD Forester"), plus a bit of compression

Nothing trendy. Everything created in Spire. Except the drums.

SPIRE gets a two page review in the latest issue of Computer Music (August 2013), they awarded it a CM Performance award and give it 9/10 rating:
"With terrific waveshaping and a monster mod matrix this hybrid subtractive synth is an impressive debut for Reveal Sound"

I guess I'm late to the party but... just tried the Mac version of this and it's pretty great! CPU slamnation though. Is the PC version heavy on the cpu? I'm assuming polyphony and voices are the cause of some of it but just checking...

After testing it multiple times i finally decided that i don't need Spire. It's a nice synth but i have to dig deeper into the many other great synths i already own including e.g. ElectraX, Synthmaster 2.6 and Diversion. Maybe i'll even sell a few that i rarely use.

Damn good advice.Nielzie wrote:If I might give a little workaround tip on using synths with very heavy cpu consumption: Sample it with HighLife
Once you have the sound you want out of the heavy cpu synth, you can sample it with discoDSP HighLife (it can load vst's), save it as a (fxp) program in HighLife, unload the vst, and play it back with just a fraction of the cpu use
