"Basemint" ... has a chocolat'ish flavor to it, don't it?

..or maybe that's just me. Hmmm I don't know. "Bass Clamp" ...might have something right. I like the thought of clamp.

But maybe I'm really just too lazy to go in and change the name right now

I Was going to suggest that name , I've started writing the post and then thought to myself... hmmm... this is too simple so I didn't post it.
But yes, unless someone finds a better name Bass Control is the best name

After all, it *does* adjust the amount of space taken up by the bass in your mix.

Well, yes you're right, they shouldn't do that in the first place...if things were right and under control.
But life in my DAW isn't always under control.

So mainly I guess it's when various sorts of processing has been applied to a track (mostly drumtracks) it can often have an unintended and unsuiting affect on the bass. Maybe you want to spread out an old loop by using reverb and delay, but not ruin a tight kick drum fixed in the center.

Also when working by mixing various drumloops into one, Basslane can help by merging it all a little better together.

I've experienced times too, when something like too much chorus on a bassline made it too loose. That's when I mean a little more bass-tightness in the stereo center can do wonders.

Also, it can have the usage of correcting a mix if too much stereo panning have made the track loose it's groovy feel

These are the examples of times when I've experienced kicks and basslines flying around uncontrolled in my DAW studio

In my bass guitar rig (y'know, the thing with 4 strings *not* named 'VB-1'?

), I have a frequency cross-over circuit that applies my FX based on frequency range: I can send the top-end to a chorus or reverb or flanger to make it stereo and detuned or time-modded without losing the fundamental tone and timing of the bass itself.

So I see this plug as a sort of weird extension of that... "weird" in that it seems to me kind of backwards: applying some FX and *then* forcing it back into mono again, rather than just bypassing the bass frequencies in the first place, or effecting them in a separate signal chain.

I guess it's just the way you're used to working, tho! Good notion, all the same.

Sure, there's always different ways of doing things.

My point is just, that it's not always directly possible to control the crossover in effects, and in those cases something like Basslane can be a fast and efficient solution. (faster than doing rerouting to make it possible otherwise.)

But true, it is in fact backwards. But hey, it's also often after I do the recording that I know what to do to make it good..so in that sense, it might be my way of working
