Hi,

I guess there are tons of posts like this already, but time changes things and maybe my situation is slightly different... I awfully just discovered that my trusty AKG K240 Studio, which is about 10 years old, now produces a vibrating noise on right channel on heavy bass. I'm afraid it's going for good.

So, I'm looking for the best replacement considering I'm much used to how it sounds (and how comfortably it "wears"). I'm considering getting just another K240S, since it seems it's still available, but also the following models:

AKG 240MK2
AKG K242HD
AKG K121 STUDIO

They are more or less in the same price range, but I don't know if they are in the same league qualitywise. I also see they're probably mostly manifactured in China, and I wonder if it makes any difference actually.

In the end, I'm looking for suggestions on the above ideas and other possible similar models. Super linear and clean response are paramount in my choice because I'm going to use these headphones for mixing/mastering home projects.
Not too keen on getting a completely closed type, I'm afraid they can bee to fatiguing to wear for fairly long times.

Thanks you very much in advance,
Mario

I don't think they ever were linear? Then you'd have non-existent bass and I don't recall that being the case with those headphones.

I use K271 MKII and I'm very satisfied with them. Works great for mixing even if they aren't linear. I've learned that it's generally optimal to have bass/bassdrum around 2-3dB lower than what feels just right when listening through them. Regarding the component quality... I had to return mine twice before I got a working pair.
