The more I think about it the more I get the impression that the OP isn|t serious.

What kind of school is it where pupils investigate an absolute niche product plus being forced to list numbers? An economy school? A music school? *pfffft*

Express yourself, Tweakkk, tell us about your project in detail (incl. stats, haha).

At the moment, we have one commercial sound bank available, and it has been for 6 weeks now. We have not reached the 20 sales yet...not even close. :help:

It's save to say our sales numbers are not representative at all, the well known names in this business seem to be able to earn enough to get some food on the table. (Talking about sound designers now.)

I often wondered how many copies of Sylenth1 have been sold. Is it 1000? (and the other 499.000 users have an illegal copy)... 10.000?... 25.000? Maybe even more? I have absolutely no idea!

I am guessing that Goldbaby and other big sample firms make thousands every month. Sorry to hear about the bank sales. I think 20 isn't bad for a preset bank, but I don't know what the average is. Do some bank publishers sell thousands of banks? Is the market increasing? I think it's obvious it's been saturated, but are the pie pieces still enough for me to save up and get a ntg-3? So many questions...
20 would indeed be a nice sales number for us, but we have nog reached that number yet. I think, with this particular soundbank, we are not going to reach it within the next two or three months. As I said.. We are not even close to 20 sales at the moment.

But I don't mind we sold just a few banks. We just started, it's our first bank we are selling ourselves under our solidtrax name and it takes time to be recognised (if ever).
And somehow, Corona seems not a very popular synth plugin. It's a shame as it is pretty powerfull and has some unique features and a good sound quality.

I don't have the experience, but I can imagine a well know and respecteded sound designer should be able to sell 20 or even more soundbanks in a month when it's a bank for a popular synthesizer. (This is my guess, can be very wrong though!)

i doubt that. i think u-he or NI have more owners just to name two.
Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

And how do you know that?

thomann has this ranking lists.

http://www.thomann.de/at/prod_vrank~ncx.html?ar=253796

and below there are the "hall of fame" products. for example, the sold "over 3000" copies of omnisphere. given that thoman is the largest european online store, it is a good place to start comparing the popularity of different products. but it's only retail products obviously.

Thomann rankings make little sense, they even have hardware on that list

Since some developers only sell directly while others use all kinds of channels, there can't be reliable rankings...

There is no way to know unless somebody posts. Now, what company would take that risk? Only person so far who commented, was referring to his preset pack for Corona.

I think it was around one year ago, that the 20k-th buyer of Nexus got a price on refx' FB page.

It's really hard to figure out the exact amount of sales, but I'm pretty sure popular preset banks sells more than 20 copies a month. My first sample pack is quite underground and sold more than 100 copies in it's first year (now it's close to 200 sales). When you work hard and spread the word, things happens. So the well known VST instruments companies should easily make thousand of sales.

There is a simple way: how much does a company spend?
I found in wikipedia that a (well known) company has 80 employees. This means that they spend maybe 2 million/year in slaries. Add all the usual expenses and a 10% profit, you can guess their annual revenue
