I think a lot of people are not really getting the whole Spectrasonics browser thing.

With around 7.500 patches, going through them one-by-one is clearly the road to madness. Even just with a broad category you'll be swamped. Use the filters to narrow down the area you're looking in. If you're after a playable texture or Kalimbascape, you won't find any EDM in there anyway. If you want a Synth Bass that's not dubstep, you just select Dubstep from the Genre menu, then the NOT condition at the top of the column (drop down arrow). Voila - all dubstep patches gone. You can multiple select these sorts of attributes too using shift-click, select other criteria in other columns etc.

So don't think in terms of deleting presets, it doesn't make sense in the Omnisphere world, and start using the browser as its intended. When that happens, you only ever see what's relevant to you - every time I'm searching I'm looking for something different, and this is how you do it. It's the whole key to working with Omnisphere presets, and it's immeasurably better than any of the competition imo. And don't forget of course if you have something you like in broad terms, you can sound match to find similar patches, and sound lock to lock attributes you want to keep.

(incidentally, 800 EDM presets is only 1/10th of the entire library... these are all new Omni 2 patches, I'd guesstimate there are around 2,000 presets tagged with the word Dance, which is around 1/4 of the library.)

Of course i normally use filter etc, but i want to go through
the new omni 2 patches all of them except for EDM.

In the patch browser i selected "Dance" and not, problemy is EDM is in other genre to. Id would have been better with option of selecting spotlight EDM and select not.

Of course it is not a problem.

I totally agree. I mean, I feel omnisphere has always been filled with interesting patches that were pretty unusable - like a piano on fire or whatever. I mean when it has 8000 patches or whatever, you know there's some bloat...

I haven't spent too much time Omni2, but I do think the patch browser has improved in that you can see the browser patches on the side bar while looking at the interface. I think that makes it better for preset surfing.

so far, I'm very happy with it, though I think I expected FM to do a bit more.

BTW, I'm an old man and I think Dub Step is great. Just recently got into it (I know I'm behind the times - I'm an old man). But I've always liked harsher music (hardcore punk, 80's industrial, etc)...
In Omni 1 i never had a big problem with patches i didn't like, in other hand there wasn't as many EDM patches there are now.

For me is the opposite, older i'm getting more i'm disliking EDM, Dubstep etc.

I thought Burning Piano was great.

LOL EDM. Though electronic space music is my first and primary love when it comes to what is done with a synthesizer, and I am an old man now, I find myself still loving filth and in particular sinister sounds.

I can't think of a genre I don't like, except gangsta rap, and even then I still like the beats and the music (I just can't stand the constant lyrical content of "My dick is so big / I'm the baddest mother fvcker out there").

Love djent, "intelligent" rap, metal (all kinds, screams to classic stuff), pop, EDM, all ambient genres, dub and dark techno, I just can't get enough sound. Oh wait a minute I don't like country music. There we go. There's one.

I love this, ESPECIALLY the voicy snares

I listen to a lot of different music genres, etc Electronic, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Black/Death metal, Movie score, Classical Music, Opera, Hip-Hop, Country etc.

But for example Dup-step everything sounds the same, don't see the point with it.

I hate 'dubstep' with a passion, and I hate the crappy 'dubstep' sounds that I see in preset packs for Massive especially - it seems as if 90% of the preset packs are aimed at 'dubstep', and all of the sounds are completely unusable in any other genre of music (i.e. decent music). These 'harsh' sounds irritate the hell out of me when I come across them - Spire is another victim of this, and according to what some people have experienced with Omnisphere 2, even it has loads of presets that are too 'hot' because for some reason Spectrasonics thought that would be clever. It's really irritating when you are looking to buy more presets for a synth, and all you can find are unusable sounds, all stuck in the same 'dubstep' or 'EDM' timewarp.
Some of these preset packs have become parodies of themselves - just go and look for Sylenth expansions and listen to the demoes - 99% will sound exactly the same, and be 'cookie cutter' dubstep and EDM bullshit.
If you're gonna write commercial music the worst thing you do is hate certain types of music. You have to find characteristics in whatever sound that are appealing. Dubstep is no longer in vogue anyway but the 'harsh' sounds like squeals, edgy razor synths etc, are and will continue to be.
Really? I don't think so... The harsh sounds have never been in vogue, and never will be. I like more types of music than anybody I know, (most of whom only 'like' one or two types, i.e. they don't actually like music, but think they'd better pretend to, because they see everybody else pretending too), but I still hate dubstep, and I still hate those harsh sounds that so many Massive preset packs have. Are you suggesting that ALL commercial music (which I don't write, by the way, I'm not that good) contains harsh sounds?

I'm an old man too, Joy Division, Clash etc., but when Trilian came out I shot out an email to a friend who came right back with "Hawkwind"! :P

I'm going over to my friend's studio today to get my hands on O2, and I don't care about presets, but I did realize that O1 doesn't seem to be as "edgy" as other synths I have (but Trilian does) and it's my favorite synth.

The FM thing, well I'll check it out but I think Spectrasonics has done a great job of staying away from what others who do things extremely well.

Don't know if they got it from the Virus TI, but one idea I hope they borrow from Nord is the 'like' button - a scratchpad that holds up to 50 variations of a preset. Super-handy when sound editing - just hit 'like' and keep tweaking. 8)

PatchAdamz wrote:I like that... "Omnisphere is like a playground of inspiration for me...".

That sums it up very nicely.
The "playground" term was originated by 'noiseboyuk' earlier in this thread:
"But the bigger thing is that this is a synthesis playground like you wouldn't believe."

God, I hope that word never gets used on this forum again... interesting how so many people have started using it in this thread...
Glad you liked it. Was that necessary? I hope you no longer use this thread. You are superior and it intimidates unoriginal folks like me. It came from the top of my head, not some post six miles back, and it was positive rather than a nasty rant.

As somebody who has grown up listening to just about every genre of music in existence, I can honestly say that there ARE genres that make extensive use of these so called "harsh" sounds. You may not like them, but they exist and are in demand. And if a synth maker wants to appeal to the widest possible audience, they SHOULD try to incorporate their sounds into their sound libraries.

One thing I can say about myself personally is that I am not a music snob. I can't be if I'm going to be a successful businessman in this very competitive business. My RFM site has over 5,000 tracks of many genres and styles. I don't claim to be an expert in all of them or for that matter, any of them, but I don't close my mind off to any one genre.

And as with any genre of music, there is going to be good and bad in it, good and bad being subjective to begin with. The key is to look for the "good" in each genre.

So today in church, our choir sang "And All The People Said Amen" on my suggestion, arranged specially by me for them, and now I'm probably going to search out some hardcore dubstep in order to develop a better feel for the genre, all at the same time never forgetting my roots in opera, symphonies, concertos, and all the pop rock in existence from ABBA to Zappa.

There is an episode of MASH where Charles says to Potter "A closed mind is an empty mind."

But whether or not you want to open your mind to wub-wub-wub doesn't change the fact that the genre exists, the demand is there, and smart companies will cater to that demand.

I choose to accept that and find the good in it.

Why don't you kids just try to be like me? You know; cool. Or are you calling it 'fly' These days? Fresh?

I believe it's "outta sight" these days, allthough "far out" is still accepted. I prefer "bitchin'" or "boss".

I think "fly" stopped being a thing about 10 years ago. LOL.

Wonder what Omni2 does upon first loading in the DAW. It's 4.3 seconds (stopped with hand) for the UI to show up and then making another click necessary... something I didn't understand with v1 either.

Because the first screen is the "check for updates" screen. You certainly don't want that mixed in with the main interface with all that's in this synth. It's cluttered enough as it is.
