I have a suggestion: How about a programmable note usage. Completely free. For example I realized that I'd like to have the note one note higher than the 7th. For the C scale I'd like to have the A# but I only get the A.

I check what happen on my system. It crash not every time, but if try several times, then it crash on my system too. For reproducable tests i load song ambient1 quit RC, and start it again so ambient1 song is load. And i click on the keyboard icon in chord suggestion. i enter nothing as chord, and i only click on red close requester button. after 5-15 times doing this steps, it crash on my system on press closeSoman wrote:Attila, before I was even able to try the beta, I found this reliably replicable bug:
Click on "Type Chord Name" and then cancel makes Rapidcomposer crash every time.

The crash with "Type Chord Name" is fixed already. I try to upload 3.0b8 soon because it has so many fixes and improvements.

New update (v3.0b8) is available!
This update fixes hopefully all bugs reported in this topic (thank you!
), and brings improvements in rhythm editing and usage.
Important: in rare cases some composition files
- will not load all phrases if they contain 'Thirds Run' or 'Triplet Rhythm'
- may not restore note lengths in some phrase generators properly due to the substantial changes introduced in this update
3.0Beta8 changes:

Important: in rare cases some composition files
- will not load all phrases if they contain 'Thirds Run' or 'Triplet Rhythm'
- may not restore note lengths in some phrase generators properly due to the substantial changes introduced in this update
3.0Beta8 changes:
- Rhythm editing improvements. From now 'note length' logically belongs to the rhythm. All note length options were removed from the phrase generators.
- Rhythm 'post-processing' step between rhythm and phrase generation, to alter note lengths and add rests (with preview).
- Using shared rhythm patterns is possible for any number of phrases. You will find the shared rhythm patterns in the 'Rhythm' menu in the phrase inspector. It is possible to create/edit/delete/rename patterns.
- All rhythm and phrase generator user interfaces were reworked
- 'Triplet Rhythm' was removed. You can achieve the same (or more) in 'Simple Intervals'
- 'Thirds Run' phrase generator removed. Use 'Dyads Run' which is more general
- Setting and restoring the inspector window sizes improved
- [OS X] MIDI Reset was sent accidentally
- "Each Note Follows The Envelope Within Key" works well with long phrases (envelope changes are respected inside the phrase)
- Fixed: store composition in history crashed
- Modal dialogs improved
- Fixed a crash when trying to add measures to the end of composition
- Fixed a crashing bug when typing a chord name
- Fixed a possible crash in phrase morpher
- Fixed audio overflow, no more crackling sound, only slight distortion when the levels are too high
- Chords and scales starting/ending on 1/8 are properly displayed on the piano roll
- Crash fixed when adding "Limit Note Range" sliders to track header
- Fixed a crash during quitting the application
- Other small fixes not worth mentioning

Hi Attila, thank you for release so fast the beta 8. great, the rythm edit is much enhance now.
sorry there are still some problems. the decrease of phrase history look diffrent now(do you get the video i send some days ago ?), but still delete phrases, the clipping do too not work better. see screenshot.this is a bass sound. when level is too high values should stick on top or button wave view. but you can see in wave view screenshot i attach, it wrap around. below is with lower level and you can see how the bass waves look. bad crackle happen with vst and sf2
I have soundblaster z and here i can record what you hear.
Now red close button is not in b8, but same crash happen when press cancel and do the steps several times. I send you Video in e-Mail, so you can see the crash
regards

A feature request regarding the GUI:
In the GUI settings where you set all colors and stuff, it would be nice to have some kind of preview that is always visible and that shows how different GUI elements look while adjusting the colors. I'd love to make my own color scheme, but it's very tedious when having to switch back and forward between tabs to check the results.
Perhaps a button named "Show preview" that opens a separate example-window with all GUI elements.

Attila, I have now tried the new beta (had problems with my host daw so my testing had been delayed.
Now the Midi Reset is gone! Thank you!
I can finally use RC with my daw and my plugins.
BUT there are two other things I'd like to talk about:
The first thing is that the bug with the chord name typing on my system (OS X) is not gone. It's still there.
I'm on OS X 10.9.5. And when I click on type chord name and then hit cancel, Rapidcomposer crashes big time.
The other thing is that I found out that the "seventh" which is available in the note usage is not a seventh.
It is half a note too low. For example a C Major 7th chord is: C, E, G and A# (or call it Bb).
But when I activate this in RC's note usage, I get C, E, G and A.
The same goes for all other seventh chords or arpeggios.
I already suggested a free note usage feature. So we can program that for ourselves.
But if this is too complicated to implement right now, I would already be happy if the seventh note really was a seventh note.
Thank you for your attention and best wishes, Michelle.

Hi Attila,
thank you for the bug fixing and improvements in beta8
, just downloaded and installed, will start checking right after this post.
Just realized that there is an old issue with ASIO device switching, that I already wanted to report earlier, but always forgot to.
I am using a notebook and on my desk I have a Fireface, but when not at my desk I use a smaller Audiointerface or even the built-in sound device via Asio4all. So I have to switch ASIO devices frequently, which does not work flawlessly in RC.
The problem is that when I change to another device, I can not select the ASIO channels right away, the list of channels does not change (e.g. after switching from Fireface to Asio4all the channel list is still showing the Fireface channels and I can select a pair, but actually these are channels of the wrong device...).
Most of the time I am getting error messages then (Failed to create buffers, Get channels failed) and RC crashes. After a restart the channel list is correct then. Sometimes I also have to start RC with the Alt-key pressed to start with audio disabled.
It would be great, if you could improve this behaviour. I like how Cubase does it: it detects when the device -that was used the last time- is not connected and simply shows a list of installed drivers where you can select one.
Greetings, Max
Edit: just checked the rests feature, but I the found the same issue that was reported above by yellukhan.
A feature request in this regard: what I miss right away is a repeat feature alongside Start and Length, to be able to repeat the rest every x/8 or x/16, this could give cool polyrhythmic stuff?!

Hi Michelle,
you are not mixing up major7 and dominant7, are you?
Nevertheless, you can edit all the chords by right clicking on them or you can even edit the Chords.rcCHRD file, that defines all the chords (it's in the DB folder alongside other RapidComposer files in AppData\Roaming (on Windows)). I use the basic Windows text editor to do that.
I did it as you can see in the screenshot, because for me there are far too many chords predefined and I stripped that down quite a lot. As soon as I want to use a chord that is not in my list, I can add it quickly.

Thank you max.noise!
Ok I should have been more specific. I was talking about the "Note Usage" in some of the Phrase Generator windows.
For example let's insert a Bass Generator and set it to "Bass Rhythm".
Right in the middle you have Note Usage.
Select "Use Bass note and Seventh".
The notes that are generated when I am in C are C (the bass note) and A.
Well, it might be that this is a seventh note and I'm mixing this up with a seventh chord.
But let me ask you a question: Wouldn't be the A# or name it Bb in this case be MUCH more useful?
Because it is sooo commonly used. Take this example: C, E, G, A, A#, A, G, E, C
And I just would like to have the C and the A# in the Bass Rhythm Note Usage.
Or take this one: F, A, C, D, D#, D, C, A, F.
I would like to have the F and the D# in the Note Usage. What should I do with F and D? This is very uncommon in a bass line.
Or am I completely wrong here?

Hi Michelle,
now I understand and I would say that you are absolutely right.
There is an older post of Attila, when I remenber correctly, where he admits that especially the bass generator needs an overhaul and what you described might be one of it's issues (maybe Attila can clearify this further).
I just did a quick test and get the same results. Chord is Cmaj7, Bass generator is set to Bass note + Seventh and I am getting a phrase with the notes C and A. A is definitely the 6th in this case
I would also prefer to have the seventh below the root, which would be much more common for bass lines. Root plus seventh above is a much too big intervall for a normal bass line. I am a bassplayer for 25+ years, I know, what I am talking about

Okay, good to hear that I wasn't completely wrong.
Well in some electronic styles, bass arpeggios with a seventh above the root are pretty common I'd say. On a bass guitar I agree that it's much more uncommon.
Yeah man, slap on!
