mcbpete wrote:Really do love the new skin of v0.98c, really is a great improvement. I can't remember now but were the -init- default drum kit always this noisy ? Had headphones on and pressed the keyboard to trigger a drum and nearly crapped myself - Every key was pure noise mixed with a loud bass square wave ! *regains composure* :o
Glad the new skin seems to be well received by a lot of people :)

I'll try to make a more balanced *Init preset* for the v1.0 release. I think I'll keep the init patch -virtual- analog only. (or maybe make a second init patch for sample material )

StiX Beta V 0.98 C has been released.

Changes :

1/ New *Brushed Metal* skin. ( Makes it easier for people with vision problems )
2/ Some minor bugs fixed.

Dl from the usual place.

Thanks.

StiX Glasgow

Kick is VA and one oscillator only  HH are virtual analog also ( closed and open are made with the same sound) . No compressor, no nothing. Keys are FM8, and the bass courtesy of PolyKB II. I've also saved the drumkit and it will be included in the V 1.0.
Another demo using song mode. Keys are Xils 3, and the bass the POlyKB II -again-.

StiX Ibiza
It would be nice if StiX could do what these heavy & expensive cinematic sound libraries with gazillions multi samples offer. Well, it can't . But it was fun to try :) Here's a possible result, ussing a mix of all synthesis methods.

Drums of War 2

The preset and the drumkit will be added in StiX v1.0.
Quick sketch while testing v 0.98C, trying to do a solid/centered, but not too obstrusive/inyourface, drumbeat. Just chaining patterns on the fly with a midi keyboard, while adding a few drumhits here and there. Very exciting to play StiX *live*, it keeps the interest and energy constant. Bass:pkbII /Keys:FM8/ Brass&Strings:Kontakt Stock, *lead*:MiniSyn'X

StiX Lounge House

Preset(s) will be added in StiX v1.0.

Doin' some test in Ableton Live about the MIDI CC assignments.
Well Ableton does not allow different channel MIDI CC on the same clip, neither AFAIK to route different channel dummy clips to different MIDI track.
That's why i really think the whole XILS series should implement proper VST/AU automation   :hail: :hail:

Hi Lalo, hmmmm, according to our tests it works in Reaper.

Could you please try the following :

1/ Create a track in Reaper and assign it to StiX on channel 1
2/ Create a second track in Reaper with any other instrument (not StiX), then remove this instrument and assign this track to StiX on channel 2 : You should now be able to automate the Bass Drum drumpad synthesis parameters via midi Cc with your usual Midi Keyboard/Midi Knobby device
3/ Repeat 2/ and assign the 3rd track to channel 3 : You should now be able to automate the Snare Drum drumpad synthesis parameters via midi Cc.

Note : On the first track, you should be able to control StiX global parameters, like mixer/effect AND the synthesis parameters of the CURRENTLY SELECTED drumpad

Note : Stix parameters should have been assigned/mapped to misc. midi Cc prior to all this.

There might be an easier path to do all this in Reaper than step 2 (if some Reaper wizards read this, and have another way to do it ... ). But, following exactly this process, it definitely works for us.

HellOoo,

Yes it was down while the new version was ULed. Sorry for the delay. Links should work Ok now.

New in StiX versions 0.98 C/D

* Skins Brushed Metal and Black available ( option menu, then relaunch StiX)
* Selected effect bg colour changed. Easier to see what effect is currently selected
* Copy/Paste/Random Kit/Intelligent Random kit buttons now different from drumpads buttons.
* Logos + device name location changed ( now embedded inside in the *Drumpad bar* )
* Eazy Synthesis : Knobs order reorganised so that the Global Pitch button changed location. It's now clear it's related to the convergent/Divergent/Linear toggle.

Loading multi-out instance in Logic is not causing a loud sine sound anymore with beta D

And here we go with another one I just found in Logic 10.2.0 Mavericks 10.9.5 and Stix 0.9.8d

- Load and open Stix
- Change the GUI size thru the menu, no matter if increasing or decreasing
- Close the plugin window, no matter if thru the "x" or thru clicking the "plugin" in the instrument channel
- Open the plugin window by clicking the "plugin" in the instrument channel
- GUI missing buttons and other stuff :help: (see also attached screenshot)
- Unload the plugin and reload the instance again
- GUI now correct and in the new chosen size

And now for something completely different - StiX into a 80s digital delay VST (HoRNet DeeLay) into Valhalla Plate reverb

So as well as being a great drum machine, it's a great sound design tool as well! Here's it creating what sounds like a whole load of birds stuck in a large metal garage:

I'm looking for a CHOKE style function - do we have one in StiX?
Maybe it's called something slightly different?

And I'd like to make a feature request:

- left and right clicking on the sample selection button in the advanced window enables one to push up or down in the sample selection list

current behaviour - left mouse button pressed on sample selection button moves DOWN the next sample list

additional behaviour - right mouse button on sample selection button goes UP through the list

doable?

loving the new metal skin

is there any chance to be able to add favourites to the drum sound presets so when i look through kick/snare/hat presets folders etc i can quickly see the ones i like?
just to be able to put a little star next to preferred sounds would be great

Glad to see the lound sine sound when loading multi-out version while Logic is running is gone :)

Else : Changing GUI size causes some missing GUI parts until StiX is relaunched : It's neither a bug, nor a feature, it's *normal* : You MUST relaunch StiX afer having changed GUI size, or Skin. We'll probably add a pop up reminder for that in the next versions.

No. Well, in StiX, by design, with the per step gate time parameter you don't need choke groups, because you can determine exactly the lenght of a sound for each step.

This is also why you can do open/closed HHs with the same sound, and only one sequencer line. Or a mute tom hit followed by a long *ringing* one. I love that because people dont have to worry no more if for example the body sound of the open HH will be coherent with the closed HH sound : It will be, just because they are the same. And it's the same with the different articulations of all drum sounds for StiX : The sound stays coherent.( and I think it's the only Drum Machine to achieve that, at least in a quite intuitive and easy way )

This said, a choke function could do part of this automatically, and could also, in a few cases, achieve different results. So we'll consider adding a choke function in *the future*.
