Hi.

Anyone know of a hardware synth that comes close to the lovely sound of the Synth1 by Daichi Laboratory?

Thanks.

Post

Isn't Synth1 loosely based on a Nord Lead?

Post

Yes, it is.

Post

A Clavia Nord Lead 2 to be exact :)

Wikipedia regarding Synth1: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synth1 (english, in case your japanese is as rusty as mine)

Ahhhh right. Great thanks.

About any hardware synth should actually sound better than Synth1. Would be quite disappointing if it didn't when you shell out a couple of hundred Euros.

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

I know there are other skins for Synth1, but are they any designed by LimeFlavour or maybe someone else with that level of talent?

There's no way to skin Synth1 in such way. You can only change the colors, and with some resource hacking, the font.

oops ..I meant I know it can change colors to change the look of the skin, but it would be great to see it updated for 2016 somehow.

I guess the original programmer would have to do that himself. There are some other free synths that have great looking GUIs, like TyrellN6 (for instance) which is one of my favs.

N6 is no Synth1... Synth1 has thousands of patch banks for it for a reason.
biggest difference being that Synth1 sounds great while using so little CPU.
HW SYNTHS [KORG T2EX - AKAI AX80 - YAMAHA SY77 - ENSONIQ VFX]
HW MODULES [OBi M1000 - ROLAND MKS-50 - ROLAND JV880 - KURZ 1000PX]
SW [CHARLATAN - OBXD - OXE - ELEKTRO - MICROTERA - M1 - SURGE - RMiV]
DAW [ENERGY XT2/1U RACK WINXP / MAUDIO 1010LT PCI]

Using synth1 last night, and a really weird 'bug' in a synthedit synth
also running, reset the sounds in 3 Synth1 instances, and it was marvelous,
hit the record button in near-record time! :ud:  :hyper:

True, they're very different. N6 has much better filters. :)

Synth1 imo sounds much better than Nord Lead. But it has some serious bugs, still. The 64bit build for OSX makes the 12dB filter unusable, so for now, I removed the 64 bit binary and using 32 bit. Hopefully one day the author will fix all those problems, and also maybe starts to communicate and benefit from community as bug reporters.

I hate that synth1 64 bits is not compatible with 32 bits version and doesnt recognize system to swap into 32 bits and vice versa, i have 64 bit and 32 bits system , when im on 32 bit system and reopen project with synth1 saved on 64 bit machine then it says 64bit version is not compatible, and its empty track whre synth1 should be.
synth1 doesnt sound like nord, gui is similar tho.sounds better IMO, nord sounds like cheap plastic.
