Ah, i see the image now lol. Well, that's a bit weird indeed. But then, the whole synthesizer seems like something i would imagine after a day in the woods, eating nothing but magic mushrooms, so that doesn't surprise either. :P

Btw, deep admirer of Wolfram Franke's work here, but his latest output is nothing to crow about for me. I love what he did @ Waldorf though.

+1

The Biotek design team "exposed" showing that certain members just grab the nearest bottle for street cred, instead of going for a decent dram

Looking into the thousand yard stare of Wolfram Franke, I think that is just what has been happenin' :hihi:

You know, I had actually moved on from this in spite of my disappointment, but it's really starting to bother me.

How can a company take a synth that has so much amazing potential and turn it into, whatever this thing is?

Maybe they'll come out with a "pro" version one day for us folks with a brain.

Post

It's beyond me, too. Next time, I'll engage my brain before clicking the PayPal button. It's definitely the most unusable synth I've ever encountered.

Just read the Computer Music review of Biotek (issue 230). In the past I'd criticised CM for their reviews as I didn't think they were realistic - stuff usually ends up scoring 7/10 or more. I now stand corrected.

Biotek got 3/10.

Hope no one minds me posting the summary:
Verdict
FOR:
  • Animated X/Y pad is pretty
AGAINST:
  • Only 128 presets, practically all of which sound dated
    Limited parameters
No way to create patches from scratch
    Useless manual
    Poor value for money
Sloppy, limited and overpriced, BioTek is not an instrument we can recommend when such superior alternatives exist
I'm all for innovation and trying new things, and I don't want to kick a guy when he's down, but hey...some good points to learn from here. Let's hope the next release from TSC is better.

That's really one devastating review :o And I fully agree with you that CM normally tends to be veeery generous with their ratings - even a 7/10 basically means that you should save the money unless you don't have GAS or something. So this synth must really be bad - which actually astonishes me, because it looks kinda cool and sophisticated - but only on paper then, I suppose :?

And CM got no particular axe to grind with the dev.

Tracktion 6 got 8/10 (4 out of 5 stars) in review last summer: http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/tech/ ... n-6-622772

So Biotek is just a rotten pile of compost then

Now on sale, no wonder :hihi:

As I said earlier, one of the biggest disappointments I've run into in a long time. This idea had so much potential but they just butchered it.

3/10... f***in' hell. :hihi: That surely is humiliating. I really can't link Franke to this. He did some great stuff for Waldorf. On the other hand, that iPad drum synth of his was already absolutely terrible GUI wise.
