I just listened to a number of audio demos on you tube... Legend is impressive. I certainly like it better than Monark. Legend is more musical but it also got some juice! I didn't hear a single sound among the many dozen I listened to that had something weak or suspect about it. Legend definitely sets the new standard for a MiniMoog emulation.Robmobius wrote:No problem...izonin wrote:Thank you. Will demo, then.Robmobius wrote:I prefer the sound of the Legend.
Pretty much what Yorrrrrr said.
For me, there's just something more musical about it... Monark sounds good, but somehow flat in comparison (imo).
Synapse Audio Minimoog emulation "The Legend" for VST/AU and RE released!

hmm really? Diva, Monark, the Legend... they are all very impressive. Also I will say that I havn't used this latest MiniMoog emulation at home, but I think we are getting close to the point where the differences between these emulations are almost as great as the difference between actual hardware MiniMoogs.pdxindy wrote:

but IMO The difference between listening to to raw output/lossless recordings of any of these synths and listening to demos on you-tube is probably quite large!

Is it true this has no velocity or aftertouch?

No, unfortunately. IMO this is a feature where it makes sense to add it. Maybe a small modulation matrix on the back panel, so velocity can be mapped to other parameters?aMUSEd wrote:Is it true this has no velocity or aftertouch?

This is just a workaround and not helpful for those who do not own this host/DAW software but with the "Expression Control" Max 4 Live plugin included in Live 9 Suite you could map both velocity and aftertouch to any automatable parameter in The Legend.aMUSEd wrote:Is it true this has no velocity or aftertouch?
Also possible to add a LFO (or multiple ones) and additional envelopes this way (with the corresponding M4L plugins).
UPDATE:
Here is a screesnhot using the M4L Expression Control plugin to control the Modwheel/MW parameter in Legend via aftertouch and additionally a LFO module taht controls the Cutoff in the Legend plugin:

Here is a similar setup for DUNE 2.5 and the Legend FX included with the new v1.07 in Cubase Pro 8.5 (you could click on the link for a full size picture):Ingonator wrote:You can just add the Legend FX as a normal FX plugin and use it as a filter but the envelopes in the Legend plugin will not work then. To use the envelopes in the FX plugin you have to route another MIDI track to the Legend FX plugin. By default the Amp envelope is set to a "Gate" mode that also works without routing MIDI to the FX plugin.ere2learn wrote:New update to v1.07, introducing Legend FX and MIDI Learn
Here is a screenshot of how to use the Legend FX with DUNE 2 and another MIDI track to use the envelopes (you could click on the link to get a bigger picture or use the "open in new tab" feature of your browser):

If you want to use the envelopes in the Legend FX you also have to adjust the envelopes and/or the envelope amounts in DUNE 2 (e.g. like in the screenshot) or any other synth you use with the FX plugin. You could also switch the filter in DUNE 2 off if you only want to use the external filter.
You could also use the oscillators in the Legend FX plugin if you like (those seem to be activated by default).

As alraedy mentioned you can also use the Legend FX plugin without the additional MIDI track but you can't use the envelopes in the Legend FX plugin then.
When a MIDI track is routed the FX plugin while the audio of the external synth is still routed trough the filter it more or less works like a full featured synth and you could also add the oscillators in the FX plugin.
UPDATE:
concerning the FX version this was posted by Richard at Gearslutz:
The effect version is designed to work in two ways.
The easy way is the default way, with the VCA open, so the audio passes straight through and you can treat your audio with the filter, drive, saturation, global feedback and the delay/reverb directly.
The advanced way is to send MIDI notes to the effect, allowing to trigger the filter+amp envelopes - this will also make the oscillators audible if desired (if not, they can be turned off with the switches easily). The point of sending MIDI notes is that you can apply The Legend's filter+envelopes to some other synth sound. For example, you could create a monophonic sound consisting of say 100 stacked sawtooth waveforms in Dune 2 then run that through The Legend with its complete VCF+VCA including envelopes. Setting this up is pretty straightforward in most hosts, since you only need to forward the MIDI notes that you would send anyway to the source instrument to The Legend effect.

definitely - for me this is a deal killer as expression and playability are high on my needs list for synths. And I can do this with Diva, and Monark with a bit of Reaktor editing too.4damind wrote:No, unfortunately. IMO this is a feature where it makes sense to add it. Add velocity and aftertouch and whatever else to any VST plugin with these:aMUSEd wrote:deal killer

I made The Legend respond to velocity when it was still in demo mode.
It is a gold mine of new possibilities.

As much as I love this wonderful synth, yes, it would be even better if it had some basic velocity and aftertouch. Or if it was like U-He's RePro 1 (beta). That one has a little drag-and-drop 2 slot mod matrix.

For example learn the filter frequency knob to CC 30, then use midiNotesToCC to convert the velocity to that CC.carrieres wrote:how do you do that ?Mutant wrote:Add velocity and aftertouch and whatever else to any VST plugin with these:aMUSEd wrote:deal killer

Works perfectly in REAPER.

Or if you use Bitwig, just use the Note MOD device.Mutant wrote:For example learn the filter frequency knob to CC 30, then use midiNotesToCC to convert the velocity to that CC.carrieres wrote:how do you do that ?Mutant wrote:Add velocity and aftertouch and whatever else to any VST plugin with these:aMUSEd wrote:deal killer

Diva, Monark, and Legend all have something unique to offer sonically.
Each has something of value to bring to the table.
