Liking this a lot, takes a bit of getting used to how the controls affect the sound initially but creates some really lush metallic, percussive drones which is just what I'm into at present. Sounds really good in combination with Lagrange, maybe you guys should get together and create a granular spring hybridTaron wrote:Keep me posted, please! I have updated Youlean Loudness Meter for MacOS. This is a quick fix, I am working on a proper solution.

Yeah, I have never dealt with granular stuff "consciously", but Lagrange is really interesting. I enjoy exploring things that feel like potential.

But riddle me this, Batman:
Why does a very successful and well established German Magazine, that is pretty much at every NAMM each year and covers news (at least it seems like it), have to have a spot in a "Developer Challenge", therefore get a chance to win prices and a trip to the US - while others work their fingers off to create something truly creative.
grow up, competition is called DEVELOPER CHALLENGE and NOT Indie Developer Challenge.
This means that everyone can participate, including established companies.Welcome to the KVR Developer Challenge 2016, the sixth free-for-all audio plug-in / audio application / soundware design event!
The "KVR Developer Challenge" is for anyone who develops Audio Plug-ins or Applications and Soundware.
Instead of cheering for more established and a well-known developers to participate
you are overreacting and whining.
Imagine if rewards were like $10.000-15.000 and having U-he, Native Instruments, Tone2,
Sugar Bytes, Rob Papen, Waves and all other big names sending their creations, what an amazing thing that would be.
What's there to point out, Beat already participated with Black Mamba in DC2012 and competition is opened to everyone.I didn't say "boot them off", I said that this massively annoys me. So far nobody has pointed this out either. So that's nothing even close to "being a drama queen".
Their submission is not a stripped down version of a bigger sound library.Yeah, like I said "want more, get our mag" - or "go to our page" - same thing really in this particular case.
Your arguments are not making any sense whatsoever.

OMG! YouLean Loudness Meter.
Actually, I think that should be ''Youlean'' and not ''You Lean''.

Valid argument that "poofs" into thin air if there is a team sent there for their publisher (which has several music related magazines in their pool) to cover news/announcements (which are not even THAT much once the magazine is printed).DSmolken wrote:For someone who's planning to be at NAMM anyway, the grand prize is probably even bigger than it is to us little guys - it's a chance to save thousands of dollars from their NAMM budget. I'm surprised (though kinda glad) more big established names haven't entered hoping for that.
Also, what does a German magazine do in the US other than picking up trends and maybe making a deal with certain devs (that they do regularly at this point anyway) - sure not expand to the US market (readers).
Zampler is also "commissioned" if I now understood that right (in fact, DC2012 wrote: "developed by Synapse Audio for Beat magazine ... Design by Cyan"... so... if anything, it's marketing for the Magazine (clever even!). Yet, should they win (which might or might not happen), it's unfair to those developers that invested a lot of time/sweat/blood into their creations rather than creating a sample set for a x-year old sample player. IMO(!!!), YMMV and all that.
The rules are a greyzone in this case IMO.
Same Comic Universe, but barking up the wrong tree...brainzistor wrote:Dear Robin,

Anyway - moving on...
Oh... "you're whining" "you don't get it"... yeah yeah, been there, done that. Not the first comment like that today. Why are you defending a magazine that poses as "Developer" again?
"But others also created soundsets for a rompler or synth in the Developer Challenges" - I hear you saying already. Yeah, this is true, there are others. But they're either known Sound Designers at this point, or newcomers. Nothing "commissioned" posing as something they aren't...
That is what I aim at...
Amazing yes, but they are at least developers first and foremost (U-HE won DC2006 btw!).brainzistor wrote:Imagine if rewards were like $10.000-15.000 and having U-he, Native Instruments, Tone2, Sugar Bytes, Rob Papen, Waves and all other big names sending their creations, what an amazing thing that would be.
Once more BEAT surfaced 2012 with a "commissioned" tool that was (at this point in time) also already part of their cover CD (or did they have DVDs in 2012 already? nya, doesn't matter). So their only distribution was "samples" and a custom UI.
There was sadly no listing in recent years in terms of who made what rank (that dropped after DC2006) - but in all honesty, and without your so called "whining"... considering that the price fund can raise to 1,5k-2k again, considering all the donations and the first price to win...
Does it not feel sour in your stomach that a magazine that (once more) commissioned a plugin and probably also samples, has a chance to win (albeit, looking at the other entries, that could be a questionable win)? What would they do with the won goods - simply forward it? Do they really need the licenses considering their promo deals?
I said it before - the rule set (and price distribution) has a lot of grey zones on that behalf.
Again - I'm not saying they should not participate - I'm saying that it doesn't feel right.brainzistor wrote:What's there to point out, Beat already participated with Black Mamba in DC2012 and competition is opened to everyone.
You agree to disagree - yet try to scold me for my commentary on top of that.
I didn't say with any word that it's a "run down" library. If anything you can comment on is me criticizing their "marketing tactics" maybe.brainzistor wrote:Their submission is not a stripped down version of a bigger sound library.

Now if you'll excuse me... I have about 10-15 entries to check out on top of my daily studio routines...

Ah, how nice, you guys keep bickering over opportunists, but I can only hope that DC16 has more things to talk about than someone posting yet another sample library, while the much more exciting topic of software Development gets neglected. Just ignore what you don't like and have a good chat about what you DO like!
And don't worry so much about other people not understanding the "schemes" going on! The more you lead your thoughts towards the "good" stuff, the more it becomes relevant again as it should!

Something positive: we're getting a lot more downloads than our releases usually get in the first day, so there is genuine interest from people, and making something a KVR DC entry rather than a "regular" free release is worth it even if you lose. Well, either that or more people are into female virtual death metal vocalists than are into things like bowed strings and saxophones, but somehow I doubt that's the explanation for all those downloads.

That's awesome news!
...people had me worried already that I'd be leaping onto a "dead horse", hahaha. But, seriously, for me it is exactly that; getting exposed to all of you with something I completely love doing (already/now/again/still)!?
I still don't get what's the deal with the vocals, mahaha, but well... too dangerous to talk about a gap in that context, is it?

Not competing this year, so I get to critique for once. I'm a delay-freak so I'm happy about some of the toys! Would be nice if all the devs made a thread as per usual here http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=91 Would be easier to navigate and track issues.
Good luck to all!

I'll create my thread when I finish all the preset and embedded tutorial stuff (probably tomorrow). Next will be audio / video samples, installers, AAX version, website + blog updates

HA! Way ahead'a'ya'! I totally figured this is how this works and was puzzled to find this madness here, but it's nice, too. This should just go together more closely, I find. Should at least be in the same subsection of the forum.

For the record I'm a beta tester for Synapse.idfpower wrote:Teksonik wrote: DUNE stands for Dual Unison Engine. Zampler has no Unison. So no it's not directly based on Dune's engine. See above.

For the recordRe: Is these a sample player with DUNE engine ?

It's based on Dune yes. Differences are that the oscillator section is replaced with SFZ, the filter section is simplified and all unison stuff is removed.
Banks must be loaded via the Zampler UI. Otherwise, the plugin does not know where to look for the sample content, which is located relative to the FXB.
Yes Zampler is based on some of DUNE 1's code but they are two completely different instruments. I just don't want people thinking that "Zampler is based on DUNE 1, Zampler is free so why should I buy DUNE 1 ?". Make sense ?
