If you check the Cakewalk forums, you'll see that their plugs are having major difficulties due to a timing change in Windows 10. The word is that they're going to be re-coded/updated to deal with it. It also affects Sonar heavily.

I've been running Cubase 9 for several days, and have yet to crash. An excellent update, and I'm really enjoying Cubase now that I use it as my main program.

Good to know that now. I had not fooled with them in awhile. But I had two patches in Z3TA that I wanted to use but ran into that issue...either way it works for whatever reason now.

I have Cubase 9 Elements. Lack of sidechaining is really not a horror. There are solutions for that. If you have Reaper, Live (even Lite version), or other ReWire capable DAWs you can do your sidechain compression there and rewire the output back to Elements for further processing. Caveat Live does not allow use of third party plugins when using it as a slave (i.e. you are limited to what Live has).ghettosynth wrote:Thanks for the post. The routing limitations sound annoying, but, it doesn't sound like there are any real limitations that matter on the midi side of things. I think that I'll take jancivil's approach and demo it so that I can just install it and try working with it over the Christmas break.noiseboyuk wrote:There's an awful lot you can do with it. Lack of sidechaining is indeed the single biggest horror, but there is a plugin you can get for that - SideKick6. Also I find it a real pain that you can't route FX to groups, nor groups to other groups. The track limits are actually pretty real-world useable. Good enough for laptop work for me, but I'd never make it my only DAW - Variaudio, EuCon, disabled tracks etc etc.ghettosynth wrote:I'm curious what people think about this. I have Pro on my desktop but I'm thinking that Elements is actually quite a bit more powerful than the LE versions used to be and it seems that most of the basic workflow features are there. I know that sidechain is missing, but for most of what I'm doing these days and for what I want to do on my laptop that's not really an issue. I have a copy of LE that I can upgrade so it's pretty cheap. Are there any really show-stopping features about Elements that make it super annoying to work with as compared to Pro?
I don't really plan on going back and forth. I will use the laptop to start new projects or to mix/remix stems/masters.
The second option is to keep everything in Cubase and use groups. Side note: you can route groups to other groups in elements 9 (just tried it and it works). You can find details in this thread on gearslutz: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/10033341-post18.html.
I often use the first approach (i.e. rewire) with Live Lite. It's really quick and "painless".

You're quite right, I had it mixed up - it's FX channels you can't route to groups, perversely. At least I can't find a way to do it (in Elements - Pro is fine)foo21345 wrote:The second option is to keep everything in Cubase and use groups. Yeah, Elements has some really silly limitations. I got it for $50 as an upgrade from LE/AI. I would have gotten Artist, but yet another dongle is a no go for me (already have an iLok dongle). Besides, I really don't need anything better than Elements. Elements in conjunction with LIve Lite is all I need.noiseboyuk wrote: You're quite right, I had it mixed up - it's FX channels you can't route to groups, perversely. I have been using it since SX and this is perhaps the best version for me.Hink wrote:only a couple of times have tried Cubase and once was in 1999/2000, I think version 9 looks awesome

Updates are up for some Cakewalk products like Z3ta+ 2 to solve the MS timing problem.thejonsolo wrote:Good to know that now. I had not fooled with them in awhile. But I had two patches in Z3TA that I wanted to use but ran into that issue...either way it works for whatever reason now.

If you look at this video right when it starts
there is a slider on the sampler track panel, on the very left. It's called AMT.
What is it? Where can I find it on Groove Agent SE?

Gotta say 9 Feels like quite an upgrade from 8.5
After a few weeks of use I think I have only had one crash, which is actually pretty unbe#$%(#lievable
Especially after 8.5 which was always a bit of a crash fest on my computer, but maybe this was to do with 32 bit plugins...
I had to buy Jbridge to keep using some of my favourite 32bit plugins that are littered through my unfishied projects and I was hesitant about this from the get go, but it turns out to be waaay more stable than the built in bridge that came with Cubase 8.5. I Should have demoed Jbridge and realized this before.... don't know why I didn't!
Loving the Lower Zone, after using live and Bitwig quite a bit. it just feels normal.
Also everything is quicker for sure. Best Cubase ever!

It really pisses me off that I'd like to demo this and can't. I'm sure I'll hate it anyways, but demos should ALWAYS be released at the time of the product release. Another company that either does this (or at least used to) was Cakewalk.
It's a crap ploy, and it's designed specifically to get people to buy early thus not having true confidence in the products ability to sell or that too many bugs will be brought up by "demoers"
Lame.

Maybe the good arguments are - day one bugs can be fixed before any demos released.incubus wrote:It really pisses me off that I'd like to demo this and can't. So maybe when 9.0.10 is released - and their support would not be flooded with trial stuff.
At least Cubase Elements has trials that do not require registering even. But that other version require a hardware key is crap though - really odd. In 2010 I was to trial Cubase but was never able to get license on the key even - bought a key and it was wasted money and no trial could run.
But it seems the problems with Syncrosoft servers are less now. But Steinberg probably lost 6 years of updates from me with that flaw. So they loose money on this.
Cakewalk has always only had demos on top version - currently Platinum. And it took a good while before that happend too when new rolling updates was introduced - Cakewalk seemed to think the renting for a month is what folks would do.

Does anyone know if there is a way to find out which VSTi this was? It was some freeware instrument and unfortunately, I can't recall which one it was after I got a new computer and old one is already gotten rid of.
All it shows is the name "Cheap Chords", which unfortunately isn't very helpful
EDIT: Sorry once again, solved my own problem. It wasn't a freeware actually, but Nightflight by the interruptor. What I did was open the project file with note pad, look a bit with relevant keywords until I struck the gold: "Original Plugin Name". Checked all the names and that one was missing. Kind of embarrassing to forget it.

Yeah, with cake that's what happened that made me so upset about X2. No demo, but they had this big thing with them making all this music (a webinar??) and it looked brilliant. Won't go any further, my neck muscles are already bulginglfm wrote:Maybe the good arguments are - day one bugs can be fixed before any demos released.incubus wrote:It really pisses me off that I'd like to demo this and can't. I get it with what you are saying, but then again you get a hair in the hieny to try something and you can't. Hell, by the time they got 8.x out for a demo I'd lost the desire. Can't remember if they did that with 8.5 or not but it seems to be far behind for me.

So I'm demoed Cubase 8 and liked it. Now I'm waiting for my licence key from JRRShop for Cubase Pro 9. I don't have the demo anymore and when is the demo for 9 coming out? And so if I do get the licence, will there be a download for me a Steinburg site? So far I just see the box.

Demos are usually about 6 weeks or so after release IIRC. Probably this month, maybe next I guess.
