New Progressive Electronic Rock (with some Classical flavor)

This one is called Equilibrium. Please let me know what you think. I think of it as a fusion of progressive rock (think old Rush), classical baroque (think J.S. Bach), and electronic (no idea).

man you made me bang my head!
that's very very very good!
I liked the style and the idea behind your project
the only advice I can give you is maybe to get a drumtrack a little more "open", in terms of sound and patterns
the guitar parts where played or provided by virtual guitarist?
uh, btw.... really really really nice again

Hey, Juno:
Thanks for listening and commenting. I am glad you liked it.
With regard to the "openness" of the drumms, I guess I am guilty of leaning toward the "busy" (boroque?) side in terms of drumming and everything else.
That is just my taste, FWIW.
Yep, all the guitars are Virtual Guitarist or VG EE.
Thanks again. Of course, feel free to check out my other pieces if you are in the mood (and have a couple of minutes to spare).

I'll do it for sure!jeffn1 wrote:Thanks again. Of course, feel free to check out my other pieces if you are in the mood (and have a couple of minutes to spare)
I know what does it mean leaning towards busy drumming... Some years ago I played guitar/keyboards in an hard-rock band, and I used to prepare demos of my songs with a Zoom drum machine... our drummer always rejected my ideas concerning drum patterns.
Maybe you could try adding a little reverb on the snare to make it sound less "square"... without exceeding... the-mudded-mix is always behind the corner...

Actually a friend, who I believe is a "pro", mixed it for me. But he could only work with the material he was given. I am hoping he will consider mixing my next one too, but I think it was pretty much a pain in the ass for him.
Can you recommend a book on mixing that gives suggested "target" settings for eq and compression for different instruments (bass, kick, snare etc.)?

I guess that it's pretty hard for a book to give settings like that and if it would do it, it wouldn't be serious: I think that 1000 factors influence those settings.
Maybe you can think about subriscribing to the online version of soundonsound, I've heard good opinions about that magazine.

If only there was such a bookCan you recommend a book on mixing that gives suggested "target" settings for eq and compression for different instruments (bass, kick, snare etc.)?
I quite enjoyed how the Bach piano opened this tune, but I feel that the mix at the time the drums and synth leads kick in is rather off. Once the tune itself kicks in at 1.12 its quite cool although I must say I got the feeling of a sloppy mix with just too full a stereo-field of rich sounds. There seems to be huge amounts of reverb (or other FX) going on and I personally think that a tightening of the sounds can allready make for a far more pleasant mix.

Hey, Mystahr. Thanks for listening and commenting. On my original mix, all I used were the effects on the presets and I just adjust panning and relative volume. The person who did this mix uses effects more. I did ask him to tone down some effects on the piano compared to his original mix. I think the flange he added to the synth sound works.
In any event, thanks again for your input.
