How to 'save' a custom multi-instrument without writing new sample data with Kontakt 5?

I'm pretty comfortable with Kontakt 5, but now finally getting to this.
Saving a 'multi' always follows with coping the sample data to that folder ...it's a big waste of space so I never do it. I searched the .pdf manual and found no real, simple answer.
So, can a multi be saved and it just follows the path to the original samples? (as the standalone)
I forgot to look at the file it creates when 'save multi',(on a different PC now) I think it would be an .nkb (as in bank).

Not sure if this will help as I've only got the player, but the save dialog has a bunch of options, one of which is to save only the patch or all the samples as well. Page 40 in my (old) manual. Saves as a.nkm file.

I have the same doc. A .nkm file...hmmm makes sense.
I hate they way they explain things, it's so intentionally convoluted. haha
They're not clear about that at all. I'll check out the options/source,destination folders and sub folde3r paths and crap like that tomorrow.

I don't remember seeing that. I saw a 'save as' (gave me a choice to pick any single 'instrument'.) and 'save multi' (which saved the samples.) Maybe I missed the choice in that save dialog.

No offence intended, but if you search the manual for "save multi" you find this:

Save multi as…: This saves your current multi to an .nkm file on your hard disk. While the
resulting Multi file will contain all Instrument data, KONTAKT will still need to take care
of the Samples that are referenced by the Instruments. Thus, the save dialog offers the
same Sample management options as described in the Save as… paragraph above.

And if you have a look at the referenced "Save as… paragraph above", it tells you:

Save as…: This function allows you to save any Instrument in your Multi to an .nki file for
later re-use. ...
Patch Only will keep the Samples in their original locations and leaves the file references
in their current state. This creates very small files, as only the Instrument parameters
will be saved.

So, please don´t take offence, but I somehow felt the bossy need to correct the false impression about the manual being bad or leaving out important things. Actually, most of the solutions are easy to find and well explained, this one included. No reason to bash NI (not this time, that is ).

The posted pix and a read of page 38-39 answered my questions.
As for the state of the doc as I saw it...my opinion still stands;
- You see it right there in your own post quote. The 'Save Multi As' definition makes no reference to the existence of the 'Patch Only - Patch with Samples' feature...and says it offers the same management as the 'Save As'...so reading the 'Save Multi As' def, as I did, told me nothing, and said the Save As was the same.
Now that I know about those save dialog box features it could be interpreted within the above 'Save Multi As' def, but as I said, the writing is of a convoluted nature.

For some reason when I saved that multi, I didn't notice the dialog box lower pane features.
