Trust me, I thought about the "yeah it looks like 3 of them put together" aspect, but then again, it was also brought up about the convenience.
Again, I think 79 usd is a tremendously fair price, and keep in mind, not everyone got the 254 when it was a value for us.

Yeah, I don't really disagree. I'm not saying that it's not worth $79, hell, that's really nothing for a tool like that if you really need it. There's just no shortage of things to buy that are great value and at a better price. TBH, if I wanted to spend another $80 on compressors today, I'd just give it to Waves and get the DBX and either the API or the V series. Mike has a review up too. About to watch it. This guy is usually full of a lot of info and can be quite analytical in his reviews. So they are usually worth a watch.

For me it most certainly isn't either - even this plus the upgrade for one of the SPL Microplugs for 58$ in total isn't cheap enough to persuade me...

They ARE worth a watch - usually when I'm interested in a plugin that's on sale and I look around YouTube for reviews, Mike's make me end up thinking "nah, I'll pass - that sounds really average"simon.a.billington wrote:Mike has a review up too. In fact we set the price - how many do you think they'd sell for 3000 or even 500?
If many would purchase PA plugins for their retail prices they would constantly have sales.
And going by that logic they could set a retail price of 3000$ and offer it during a sale
for 500$ and you'd say "$500 is not bad for a $3000 plugin."
After all they set the price, not you, right?
In fact we set the price - how many do you think they'd sell for 3000 or even 500?
If many would purchase PA plugins for their retail prices they would constantly have sales.

The only reason I can deduce, not being in business or sales, that they would set a higher price, is because they expect to have fewer sales.
It could otherwise open opportunities for marketing to make more sales when it's on a reduced price. If it works. Cant really complain because we're not paying for the full price anyway.
There are other companies that have higher pricing too like Flux, Acustica, IK Multimedia, some of Waves. It's not like PA is alone in their pricing strategies.
$200 isn't that bad when you put it into the perspective of a $300 plugin like bx_digital, bx_console or Alpha Compressor.
Either way. They have their reasons and give enough opportunities to buy it for cheaper. I got the 354E for $44 myself.

There are many reasons why things are expensive, but, it doesn't always translate to intrinsic value. With plugins I think that it's often an attempt to drive perceived value. However, people will pay, on average, what the market will bear, and sellers can only get what the market will bear. For me, there isn't a single plugin on PAs page that is worth even $200, let alone $300 or more.
I'm a huge fan of Flux/Ircam, even so, most of their plugins aren't even worth anything close to that. It might be if you need it, or it might be if it's truly novel at some point in time and really better than other things.
Most flux plugins, when on sale, sell for slightly more than two pizzas $40 to $50 in a bundle. The reverbs sell for more as does a few of their complex dynamics tools, but, they are really something.

And that's my ultimate point.., Whether these companies decide to put a pricey sticker on things is almost irrelevant.
Some will be happy to pay it because they believe it's worth that much to them, but the rest of still get to buy them at heavily reduced prices during sales. Everyone wins really.
I'm thinking, though, that the price MAY be set by the individual companies that make up Plugin Alliance since Unfiltered Audio's stuff is cheaper than the norm, as an example.
