This is incorrect. Reason uses Hyperthreading for everything, with the exception of audio DSP. It uses it for disc i/o, high-quality stretch and resample, as well as GUI.D-Fusion wrote:Hyper threading is not supported or used at all so that is much power lost from my I7 which make it a 3Core cpu instead of 4 cores + hyperthreading.
Reason "VST" poll: For those who "left", how many of you will consider using Reason now?

Nope. What you see there is exactly what i explained.EnochLight wrote:This is incorrect. Reason uses Hyperthreading for everything, with the exception of audio DSP. 3Cores almost maxed out while the rest is just doing something else.
Once those 3Cores get overloaded you can't do anything more on that track...
Load up a bunch of Instruments and effects and you will only see 3 Cores in use
It is a shame that i didn't keep my e-mails from when i was betatesting V7 where i got it confirmed from the Propellerhead team.

i feel guilty for dissing the much-maligned Propellerheads.
let me be clear - worth keeping for the beats, the awesome Dr. Rex. The mighty Kong and the ever dependable Redrum 'drum computer'drums
for these reasons they shall stay in my heart.
long live Reason..

Nah, I don't see any benefits to going back to Reason at this point. Maybe I'll buy it to mess about with if I find it cheap second hand, but I'll never rely on it as my main DAW again.

No because the editing functionality is way behind any of the other DAW's (and very cumbersome generally). Adding vst plugins ain't gonna change that

I'm not debating the fact that Reason utilizes 3 out of your 4 logical cores for audio DSP, and leaves 1 free (for "less urgent tasks"). I'm rightly pointing out that you are wrong when you said that Reason doesn't utilize Hyperthreading, as proven in the video. Did you notice all 8 cores ramping up as soon as the tempo was dropped drastically to force Reason into high-quality time stretching the audio? I mean, don't take my word for it - watch the video. This is easily reproducible on any i7 that is setup to Hyperthread its cores.D-Fusion wrote:Nope. What you see there is exactly what i explained.

That said, I did keep a verified conversation with the (at the time) product manager which confirmed Reason utilizes Hyperthreading:
That said, are you aware that you can actually force Reason to use as many cores as you'd like (including all 4 logical and all 4 virtual cores)?

If the props had some sorta 1/2 priced upgrade sale, I'd prolly go for it.. otherwise I'm very happy with Studio One and Sonar Platinum (lifetime) right now.
So, not interested.. unless some crazy/cheap no-brainer upgrade sale happens (not holding my breath).

Not according to the props when I asked.

No. Sequencer and MIDI workflow, as others have pointed out, is still too awful to bother with

Man I just tried the beta and the workflow for an hour or two. I gotta say when they add VST, they show their true picture how Reason workflow is stone age. I can't talk about it in detail since beta is for testing but it just gave me a headache. Be on the sequencer side and try to call your instrument and you will thank Bitwig and Studio one. Try to search a plugin to find and......... I just don't wanna talk about it in detail but I have two worlds. "Stone age"

Yes, very much agree. It's like working with boxing gloves on compared to the workflow of pretty much any other DAW.Studio Saturn wrote:Man I just tried the beta and the workflow for an hour or two. Looks like someone at Propellerhead gave you the wrong answer - or they just meant audio rendering. Check the video (for proof). Or, you can perform this test yourself.incubus wrote:Not according to the props when I asked.EnochLight wrote:This is incorrect. See, I feel the exact polar opposite when it comes to workflow in Reason (which is why I prefer to work inside it instead of Studio One (which is the closest out of the DAW's in workflow, IMHO). I found Bitwig, Live, and Reaper (the only 3 other DAW that I spent any time in) completely uninspiring, and their workflow? Meh...do_androids_dream wrote:Yes, very much agree. Admittedly, Reason's workflow isn't for everyone - and trust me - I have no shortage of complaints and improvements that need to happen (that should have happened years ago)! Lol

I hope Reason 10 will have a left-handed edition. Only then will I retire my 4-track cassette recorder.
There wasn't a poll question for this, so I didn't vote.
