Problem with Reaper

Ok...not sure where to post this. I'm recording a hard rock album...lots of Alice in Chains influenced stuff. I'm having an issue in Reaper where, when a lead solo plays, all of the other instruments get really quiet, when the solo is over, the other instruments return to normal volume. Can anyone give me any clues as to what is causing it?

Do you have a limiter / compressor on your master bus? Better switch it off while you're still mixing and not yet mastering... Then you'll probably also find that solo is obnoxiously loud. So better just turn it down.
We are the KVR collective. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Proper gaining of the tracks will help you. Put all your tracks much lower than 0 dB (like -20 dB for example) and start adjusting the mix from there.
