Looking for the Valhalla Ubermod or Unfiltered Audio Sandman Pro of compressors

I'm looking for the Valhalla Ubermod or Unfiltered Audio Sandman Pro of compressors. No skeuomorphic designs, loads of options, uncompromising sound quality, verging on the edge of insanity, etc.
Close but no cigar would be Toneboosters (amazing, but tame) or Tokyo Dawn (ditto) both of which make amazing plugins, but not really meant to go way out there.
It's really the spirit of adventure and breaking things that I'm after, a sound designer's compressor, not a Steely Dan or Violin Concerto compressor.

Maybe HoRNet?
I suppose Melda fits the bill, but I'm never really excited to use Melda stuff. It's not the learning curve, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

So as I understand it you're looking for a really creative "toolbox" style compressor with a clean GUI and tonnes of options - but not in the Pro-C/Compassion price range?
Maybe:
http://lvcaudio.com/plugins/pressed-max/
https://venomode.com/complexer
https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/h ... s-control/
https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/h ... -plus-mk2/

+1 for Klanghelm DC8C 2 (and soon 3)
I prefer Compassion but it's in Pro-C price range so it does't fit, and the best possible option imho would have been Tonebooster's compressor but it seems you don't like it.

DMG Audio is what you are looking for, I wish they would do Compassion in the new GUI style, Fab Filter have got the GUI right with Pro-C

DMG TrackComp will be worth the wait
I once thought I had mono for an entire year. It turned out I was just really bored...

Klevgrand Korvpressor? It doesn't always hit the spot for me, but sometimes it's just the thing.
Presswerk?
Rough Rider?
Honestly I usually just stick Barricade on the master (and any channel that's got issues) and use Sound Forge's graphic dynamics tool to finish. If I want sidechain compression I usually use the one in Maschine.

No no, I LOVE Tonebooster’s stuff, I’m a total fanboy. It’s just that he’s not really thinking about sonic mayhem when he builds a plugin, as capable as they are. In other words, they go to 10, but I’m looking for 11.DJErmac wrote:+1 for Klanghelm DC8C 2 (and soon 3)

Oh. Then seriously, save for DMG Compassion. It's expensive, but its the one that goes to 11 imho. Best sounding ever ? Maybe, maybe not, you decide. Most flexible ever ? Yes.

I’ve thought about Korvpressor, very intuitive GUI on that. Haven’t tried Presswork, that thing looks like a beast!foosnark wrote:Klevgrand Korvpressor? It doesn't always hit the spot for me, but sometimes it's just the thing.

Barricade is the only plugin that is consistent on all my tracks, usually the first plugin I’ll use. I’ve never thought about using it on individual tracks, but I suppose it has it’s own saturation and compressor built-in and seems pretty light on the CPU.

Flux Solera, not cheap outside a sale, is four dynamics processors in one and can do crazy things to dynamics.
Another option is Melda's MCompressor in the free bundle, which has a traditional compressor engine plus the ability to draw a transfer function on the input/output graph for unusual compressor behaviours and sound design tricks. The MDynamics(MB) plugs provide more in the way expanders and gates along with the compressor engine.
For stuff that's a bit more conventional but let's you emulate just about any real-world compressor, like others I'd go with DMG's Compassion.
