Yes, and if at least 200 orders come in by midnight Saturday, he'll throw in a CD of George Duke "boop boop BAP" mouth-music drum out-take samples! ;-)

My eyes are burnt and bleeding and all that looks like a monkey on a silver bar...

big poop hatch with a cotton hatch - hatch holes that the light shows in and the light shows out...

and the little red fence... and the wire and the wood...

and the barbs and the berries...the tires and the bottles and the caruponrims...

and the heat swims upon its fenders and the dust collects and the rust of autumn surrenders into gold...

trumpet poop on the ground with peanuts its bell was blocking an ant's vision...

and the mice played in its air holes and valves...

a ladybug crawled off its mouthpiece standing out red and blacked out its wings and blew off to a flower...

its hum heard just above the ground...

black dots were hung in what turned out to be an olive tree that originally held a tree house full of a building with one small window...

birds and broken glass and tiny bits of newspaper...

"My sun is free from my window," said the god the green dabbers...

rice wires mouse tins and milk muffins...

cereal and stone...

matches and masks and mace and clubs...

and splintered shaft light intrigues a cricket on a dust jeweled penlet...

cobwebs collect down plaster run into a hole and find collected glass that drinks the reflection of midday afternoon midway between telegraph lines...

a silver wing - a cloud - a rumbling of cloud...

a crowd of various violins strum from next door through my wall into my ear obviously artificial...

neighbors laugh through sandwiches...

Harlem babies - their stomachs explode into roars...

their eyes shiny with starvation...

spreckled hula dance on my phonograph...

my door rattles windy...

sand wears my rug shoeand taps on the unheard finish of an hourglass I cannot hear...

a typical musician's nest of thoughts through dust speakers...

"Why don't you go home? Oh Blobby, are you great," exclaims two lips in some jumbled rock'n'roll tune and wears a spot I cannot scratch...

the surface of a friend...

this high bookafriend laid on me...

on the couch relaxing in the corner behind a still life pond with plenty of bugs and lily pads slurred in mud banks and boulders tin cans and raisins warped by thought...

strain on the spoon like a wheat check - check bif - cotton popping out of his sleeve...

poop hatch open, big poop hatch with a cotton hatch - hatch holes - got to pick up the horns...

but the head won't move until it walks

Ya know, Its almost hackneyed, but genuine pioneers like Captain Beefheart remind me how puny music has become...

But then again, I am 40, so I may be a victim of "Old Guy Syndrome" (though I tend to think not...)

Even so, his music sounds far more radical and vital that anything I can think of in the last 20 years or more...

Well, you can add the Residents to that list, too. :D

DAmn right. What a pioneer he was. Whenever I listen to TMR or Sam on Zoot Allures I say to myself - I don't have to guts to sing but if I did this is how I would want to sound. Terrific!

Yeah I'll third that. They dont make em like this anymore. Its hard to imagine Zappa or Beefheart even getting signed in todays 'play it safe" mega 4 record companies environment.

The Captain got so pissed off at being ripped off by record companies, Plus his art advisers were telling he couldnt do both successfully, he just ditched music and now lives in the desert, in bad health apparently. Very successful painter I hear.

I listened to Clear Spot over a thousand times and am still not tired of it. probably one of his more accesable albums from the seventies, my favorite of his. Of course if I want some real out there blues I put on Trout Mask Replica. The Magic Band recently did a cd of alot of his tunes (minus him of course) with Zoot Horn Rollo and other members from the earlier incarnation of the band. Pretty good recording I might say and they got his blessing to do it too. 8)

Good old Beefheart :D
'Dachau Blues'
'A Carrot Is As Close As a Rabbit Gets To A Diamond'
'Making Love To A Vampire With A Monkey On My Knee' anyone?
Nice to see there's so many fans here. When my neighbours are making too much noise, I always treat them to Trout Mask Replica at maximum volume  What wierd and wonderful albums, what a wierd and wonderful guy :D Hard to credit, after hearing Trout Mask, the same man is responsible for something as melodic as Bluejeans & Moonbeams. A genuine genius..............
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.
